I mean they never listen, my 7 year old cousin Eli will never listen to anything I say. What should I do and why doesn't he listen to me?

It is a genetic trait in all humans
They do not listen until they are old enough to want someone to listen to them

It depends how you talk to them. Younger kids have a short attention span, so you have to keep what you say short and to the point, not too much detail.
Another good trick, especially if you are telling them off, is to whisper. If you shout, he will stop listening bacause he doesn't like being shouted at (!). But if you whisper, or speak in a low voice, he will want to know what is being said and is more likely to pay attention. But this only works for short amounts of time, so like i said... to the point. Good luck!

Children like to test boundaries. They don't listen because they want to push things as far as they can.

In order for you to get them to listen, you have establish that you are the authority and that they'll be punished if they misbehave. Positive reinforcement when they do something good also helps.

He doesnt want to hear you. The next time you are trying to talk to him and he wont listen. Find a step or a corner and make him sit or stand one minute for each year of his age. If he keeps getting up keep putting him back until he learns that you arent playing. Be strong Mom!!!!!

Listening is a difficult skill to learn. It has to be taught. Its not just kids who dont listen.

Its because they are kids. They have much more important things to do than listen.

I think they are testing their boundaries and trying to see how serious you are with yr demands and yr requests. I find that you can get them to listen, sometimes, if you give them a reason for what you are asking them to do i.e. please don't run because you might fall over etc.

They are usually a bit older when they start rebelling but all kids go through that phase - I bet even you did!

Its all about instilling discipline. It seems to be lacking in most kids these days.
