I just started my CNA class today, and my instructor told us that once we pass our 40 hour checklist, we can get a job at a nursing home or hospital. I was wondering if anyone has done this, or if they know what the rules are. I am in Kansas, so I don't know if the rules are different in other states. I was also wondering if the pay would be that much different from when I pass the state test?

Stacey R that is debatable, it also depends on where you live. i work in a wonderful nursing home who cares wonderfully for their residents, the pay is good, especially if you've been employed for a while, and home health here pays minimum wage, so few professionals do it.
As for your question, in Nebraska, after the 80 hour class you can work up to three months uncertified. when the tests are passed you get a 50 cent raise

you should contact the state CNA certification board...im sure you can find it on google if you type in "kansas CNA board". if you cant find that, then contact the state's nursing practice board - they can probably refer you to the right place. every state is different as far as how much clinical time you need before being allowed to have your CNA certification, so youll need to check with the state of kansas to be sure (i know in CA i had to go to class like 8 hrs a week for 4 months, and then do 24 hrs of clinical time in a hospital or care center).

I worked both.
The homes are crazy. You have like 15 to 20 people to shower, dress, feed 2 times, therapy, daily hygene. it's ruff and alot of hours and poor pay. You work your butt off.
Home care is better. The hours are more flexible, the pay is better and you only have one person to worry about.
