My son is almost 14 and wants to wear contacts instead of glasses. He has already had his exam and the doc fitted him for the lenses; now he is scheduled to return next Tuesday to learn to put them in and remove them himself. He is concerned about being able to touch his eye, etc. Can you share any ideas or techniques that have helped you or your kids with contacts? My daughter has been wearing them for years and has never had a problem, but I have been told it is harder for boys to get used to.

Yes, Sanitizer - you saw right through to my ulterior motive. I wanted to explain how men are like lava lamps:
Fun to look at,
but not very bright! ;-)

I wear contacts and so does my 14 year old grandson. He had problems at first but I had him put the contact on the end of his pointer finger, left for left eye, right for right eye. Put one drop of saline solution on the contact and with his other hand pull upper and lower eye lid wide open and softly touch the contact to his eye as he is looking to the side. The contact will immediatly suction to his eye ball. have him close his eye and gently pat his eye lid with his finger to get rid of excess solution. Will take a good week or so to get used to them. For the first few days only wear them for about 4 hours a day then start adding hours.

Perhaps what is needed is to get to the root of the question. It really has nothing to do with contact lenses, now does it katydid.
You are just trying to ask us if the male species (of which I happen to be a loyal member of) is just a 'tad' slower on the intelligence scale as compared to the female species. A slap in the face to all men, an insult of the highest degree. Are we slow learners, are we the dullest knife in the drawer, the least bright bulb in the pack......? Yes, most likely. I wear glasses by the way.

I don't know why it would be harder for boys. I got mine when I was about 16, and I've never had a problem.

It feels a little weird at first to put them in, but he'll get used to it and it won't be a big deal.

Tell him not to worry, and he can talk to his doctor about his concerns.

i look away, like to the left and put the contact to my eye gently and try really hard once i feel it not to blink, awa long as he looks away i think it is easier, i still cant look directly at my finger coming at me like some people and I have been wearing contacts since 13 lol. the doc will have some good techniques

Apparently it IS harder for boys to get used to them. Doctors say it is easier for girls because they apply makeup and are therefore more accustomed to touching near their eyes. Like anything, he will adjust. Practice will make perfect. The easiest way I have found it to rest the contact on the side of your finger rather than on your fingertip. This way it doesn't feel like you are poking yourself strait in the eye.

It shouldn't be a problem. At first it may take some getting used to, but he'll do it.

for me it was opening my eye wide and being able to look sideways as I slide the contact across my eye. just make sure to remind him, WASH HIS HANDS before doing it.
