Your cat is kinda old and he might be urinating outside his box because he can't hold it. Usually cats won't go outside their boxes, but if his bladder is weak, he just might not be able to hold it. The only thing you can do is take him to the vet and see if he's healthy or maybe consider putting multiple cat boxes around the house so he can at least try to make it to the box.

Cats are naturally clean creatures, so be sure to keep his litter box clean and tidy every day. If you do that and he still goes outside the catbox, be sure to completely clean, sanitize and deodorize the area he's now going in and try placing his litter box over that same spot so he gets the idea to go in the box instead of elsewhere. Good luck!

That's what my previous cat began doing. I agree, it might be a urinary tract infection, which is a sign of diabetes(common in older cats). Or, the bladder might be just getting too old. If its old age, try setting a litter box in the main areas the cat is, so it can get to the litter box sooner.

It might not like the litter you use, or you might not change it often enough.

HOWEVER, for an older cat, this might be a sign of a urinary tract infection (which can be common for cats) or the sign of liver or kidney disease. I suggest taking her to the vet for a check up.
