I highly suggest you familiarize yourself with firearm safety, and safe firearm handling.
A good start is here:
http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp
It is not required by law that you pass a course simply to shoot, but if you will be doing it regularly, I high suggest you take an NRA course of your choice. Some clubs may have it as a requirement..
You can start shooting with your parent/legal guardian at a range as young as 12 pretty much, altho it depends on the club rules...
It may or may not cost you - again that depends on the club.. Some you can join and you get a key, and access anytime once you pay yearly dues. Some places allow guests, and may charge for access.
Its perfectly legal for you to use your dad's firearms..and he can let you use them under his supervision.
For learning, start out like everyone else with a .22 rim fire rifle or pistol.. Once you get comfortable, move onto a 9mm or .38spl pistol. Rifles .223, 30-30, 30'06, and .308 are nice once you get comfortable as long as recoil is not an issue. Shotguns are fun too...
Most importantly tho...STAY SAFE! And have fun!

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find an outdoor range that is free to the public. I live near a national forest, and there are several within its boundaries. You should begin with a rifle, not a pistol. Rifle shooting is safer, and it will teach you the basic fundamentals of firearm handling and marksmanship. Your dad can help you with this. A good rifle to begin with is a simple .22 caliber bolt action rifle. The ammunition is cheap, it has virtually no recoil, and it is a good rifle to practice marksmanship with. You can get a decent .22 rifle for around 150 dollars. I got my first rifle when I was 12, and it was a .22. Anyway, I hope this helped. Happy shooting.

Pretty much show up and they'll give you a range break down/ policy and procedure lecture. Ranges can be expensive and if you are renting a gun from the range, it usually costs a bit more. Ammo at the range is pretty high priced, too. A good beginner gun is a 9mm. Little kick to it and fairly easy to handle. Have fun!

It depends on the state. Im from Illinois and there you need a F.O.I.D. card (firearm owners ID card) and you have to be 18, here in ohio where I live now you just need a valid drivers liscence.
oh and as far a s agun, I started out with a 17 glock and switched to a smith and wesson becuase it has less of a kick back...the smaller the gun DOES NOT mean its easier and less of a kickback ;)

ca. you don't have to for a range, you should know basic firearm safety or stay home... take an NRA safety course anyway it won't hurt you a bit and if you want to do any hunting you will need the hunter safety course. my sons first rifle was a single shot 22 and he still shoots it today

your dad will probably have to sign a waiver for you since you are under 18. otherwise, you should be able to pay your fee and shoot.
for inexpensive fun, shoot a 9mm. it's popular and not too expensive. for a lot of shooting cheap, then carry or find a .22. easy to learn with and very cheap to shoot. good luck and have fun.
