It is somewhat difficult because you have to learn a whole new alphabet and you have to at least try (lol) to master pronunciations that we don't use in the English language (I'm assuming your mother tongue is English). Have you ever learned any other foreign languages? If you start with something like Spanish or French, these are really good gateway languages that help you learn others. Not because of the language itself, but it helps you learn conjugation and other techniques that come up when learning other languages. It becomes easier to learn more difficult languages like Arabic, Hebrew, or Hindi.
The very best tip I can give you is to find an Arabic friend to help you along the way. They can help you with your pronunciations and help answer any questions you have that a book or cassette/c.d. won't provide.

Good luck!

For learning a foreign language, rather than buying a grammar book, or one of those books full of the most used phrases, it's better if you get a full fledged course, with cds or dvds you can use to listen to the spoken language and get used to it. Learning the grammar it's very difficult if you only try to memorize every rule you can find in a grammar book; the grammar constructs must be learned by seeing them used in the real world, in many different phrases.
The best language courses are those of Assimil, even if they cost quite a lot more than a normal book, they are good and they work.
Here you can find the Assimil course for learning Arabic:

Don't really know, but it sounds very hard, there's a lot of phlegm involved...I suggest you start when you have a cold .
Seriously though, if you're determined to learn a language you can do it, no matter how difficult.
