I don't think you're saying that all smart people don't have common sense. But it might be better to put more in your question next time to clarify.
Do you mean why is it that some smart people seem to have no common sense? Because I really identify with that myself.
I do very well in school and everyone says I'm smart but I have had a problem all my life with making poor decisions. I don't know why but I accept it and I think I've gotten better with time.

because they spend alot of time in school and in books, compared to paying attention to their surroundings and being able to read someones personality or sensing a bad situation.To me if someone doesn't have common sense then they are not considered smart,depending on the enviornment and how people are around you.

That's a cliche that unintelligent people use to compensate for feelings of inadequacy. When someone says this, I ask them what their definition of common sense is. They almost never have a lucid, intelligible description for this term.

base on what research? your own opinion only? if that's really the case, then aren't stupid ppl have less common sense. then aren't you the only one thinking you make sense? congratulation that you have just made yourself the most common sense person. let's have a vote on this one.

I would like to know also, my brother-in-law has a very high IQ, he DOSE NOT have a lick of common sense what so ever.

I actually agree with you. I think it's true. I have a couple of friends that are straight geeks. But, when it comes to real life they are stupid.
