they treated you like you were a shoplifter and you didn't steal anything.I went to the check out and nobody was at the desk, I waited politely for a lady to come up there. I bought 3 shirts , a pair of pants, a pair of sunglasses and a purse. The lady checked the purse to see if I stuck anything in there. Which I didn't . That wasn't what really Pissed me off . Then when I handed her a $ 50.00 dollar bill she held it up to the light , I would assume to see if it was counterfeit. Which it wasn't . I paid , said nothing and left . But I just thought that was rude. If you were treated like that would you go back there?

Probably not...but I might have said something at the time, too. There are so many stores that I wouldn't go back to that one unless they had something no one else had. If this happened within the last few days I do think I'd go back and talk to the manager about it. Good Luck!

Yes, I would, because the cashier was only doing the job she was trained to do.
Whenever I looked in purses, I would just grab everything out and say "now I have some wrapping paper to use"...that made my customers feel more at ease....and when holding up the big bills to the light, I would see the security strip and say "I thought you would have learned to make these by now, cause I sure need some."
Of course, my customers all knew what a joker I am anyway.
It's a shame that shoplifters have to make things so hard on the honest folks!

What kind of a store was it if you got all that stuff for less than $50? If you were offended, you should have spoken to the manager. That would be the correct thing to do; he or she would want to know. You could still write a letter. It is totally common for them to check the inside of purses or backpacks - not necessarily if YOU stuck anything in there, but little kids do stuff like that. Plus, there are such problems with counterfeit money, many stores check everyone's money of certain denominations.

More and more stores are doing this now. We are paying the price for what thief's and con-artists have gotten away with. I don't like it but I don't take it personal. On the other hand, to answer your question, if I thought the store was treating me like a a criminal and I could see that no-one else was receiving this treatment? NO...I would never go back to that store again.

Years ago I went to an antique book store. I had been there on a few occasions and was always treated warmly. On this occasion however my friend and I were both wearing rain coats (it was raining). They asked us to please take the coats off and leave them at the front, which we did, then they followed us all over the store. I noticed other patrons still wearing their rain gear and they weren't being followed. I put down the books I was planning on buying and said to my friend "let's leave this Popsicle stand". When we were getting our coats I told the front clerk that I would never be coming back because I didn't appreciate the way I was treated. He just looked at me like good riddance to bad rubbish...it hurt my feelings but not my pocket book. I have never gone back to that book shop and I never will.

That's just store policy. I've worked in retail and you would be amazed to see how much theft there is. Part of that is for your own protection, too. There are people who will put, for example, a bottle of perfume in the pocket of a pair of pants, or in a purse, or in the toe of a pair of shoes, planning to pick it up later when they are sure that no one is looking. I also overheard a couple of teens who thought it was funny to put something inside of the jeans their friend was buying and have it set off the security system when she left the store. I'm sure there are others who do similar things just for the fun of it. I've found razor blades stuck in the pockets of pants on the rack! I had one lady get mad as hell at me because I stayed outside the dressing room all the while she was in there. It was a hard and fast store rule that NO ONE ever be allowed in the dressing room unattended. While doing dressing room duty, I also get to provide additional items or items in a different size and I've been known to baby-sit so Mom can try on her selections without a toddler constantly tugging at her. So you see, these precautions benefit both you and the store. No slight is intended, nor should it be taken.

Hum..Did she open the purse to remove the paper that is always in them to hold their shape? They do that with every purse they sell. Holding your money up to the light or run a certain kind of pen over it is common to. That's how the identify counterfeit money. She wasn't being rude, she was doing her job. If your unsure about these policy's do check with a store manager.

From what you describe it is okay to go back to that store, they were just doing what they were supposed to do. You are okay because you didn't steal or have fake money; that treatment has happened to me many, many times. If you were literally accused of being a shoplifter don't go back. If you are treated badly or in such a way that you came to dislike a company I'd think twice about doing business with them again. Many times I have disliked the service or how discourteous a business was (not in the ways you describe though) and chose to not do any more business there.

I would because I used to work in retail and alot of stores make the employees do those things. While I understand it can be offensive, you would be surprised at what things people will try to steal or get away with. Even people that have plenty of money will try to steal. Unless she said something or looked at you in a way that made you feel like she was personally singling you out, I wouldn't take it too hard.

Can anyone say HE** NO?? LOL!!! -but sometimes you have no choice if you live in a smaller town or something. I understand your feelings, totally. I hate it when they take that little marker and go over every one of my bills to make sure they aren't fakes. And when I leave the store they have to check my receipt and practically everything in the bags or cart! I finally asked this woman who always checked my bag-" Do you think I'm a theif or something?" and she got this look on her face, sort of shocked. "Uh, no maam, I'm just doing my job." But there is this other woman, in the same store that always waves me through. It's weird. I have also seen store clerks discriminate against peoples of other colors if they walk into their stores.(I can go in and they don't even look at me- someone else they tend to 'follow' around! I never go back to these stores, either.
But there is a lot of crafty theives out there that make things the way they are. I don't think it was personal, honestly, but I would take my patronage elsewhere if you have a choice. I hate that, and I don't thinkn the overzealous store owners/clerks realize how they make upstanding, real life paying customers feel..kinda makes me feel weird! LOL!!! ;) SD

They were just doing their jobs - they weren't insinuating that you were a shop lifter. There are many times when kids are in stores and they shove things in purses and then another person picks up the purse and ends up stealing without even knowing it. The lady was just making sure there was nothing inside. Same with the money - it is her responsibility to check the money so that she doesn't end up handing fake money to her bosses. She's just doing her job, you shouldn't be angry.
