No. Spanking or other negative reinforcements will make matters worse. Use postive reinforcement for potty training. Bedwetting can be due to several things, and children have no control over the development of this. No child wants to sleep in a wet bed. There are many good resources out there to read if you are interested.

Absolutely not!! Accidents happen. Spanking is not going to solve the problem. You should talk to your pediatrician to see if there is a medical problem causing this. Also if your child is having a glass of milk or ice cream before bed that may be the problem. Dairy products make your kidneys contract which causes some to wet the bed. Also try eliminating drinks after a certain time like 5:00 pm.

Never.
This will only teach them to be more anxious about potty training and going to bed, because they will be worrying about what will happen if they have an accident. They can't be blamed for these little mishaps, so don't punish them.
Just focus on the times they get it right, with a sticker chart- a sticker every time they use the potty correctly, and wake up in the morning having not wet the bed, and a treat for every time they get, say, 10 stickers. This would be a far better way to go about things.

No! Never spank your child for having an accident or wetting the bed. Some children take longer to train then others. Do you think any child wants to wet the bed. No! Some children are such sound sleepers that they can"t wake up to go the the bathroom. Some have weaker blatters. No matter what the reason never, never spank your child for this. They can't help it. Its embarrassing enough for them the way it is. Have compassion and wait. It may take years for some to stop.

Well I do spank my daughter but never over do it. I cant remeber the last time I had to but I do believe it works.

However, I have read and been told by pediaticians that spanking children for having poty accidents is not helpful nor is it the solution. There can be many reasons why this is happening so it may damage the child more than help them.

No don't punish, we are all make mistakes. I am going to share what I did with my daughter. I let her pick out a calendar and stickers and every time that she woke up dry she put a sticker on that day. When she got some many (you can pick) she got to do something special or pick out a present. Nothing big, we went to Play land McDonald's, she got to pick her favorite meal for dinner, watch a show first or pick out a cheap toy. Before I knew it the whole month wa filled with stickers and then her big goal after a month and no accidents we went to Chuck E Cheese. You could do what ever, go to a movie, or out to dinner or rent a movie. Let the plan the evening, playing games or going to the park. Just involve the child in the prize and make a huge deal out of it. This really works as I have used it for other things as well.

With the potty we put a mark on her paper on the wall and then as soon as there were so many marks (you pick) the same things apply. It worked for both.

Don't punish them for being a kid, they don't do it on purpose.

Punishing or spanking your kids is not going to solve them from having an accident. Most children pee the bed because they do not feel coming on fast enough or they are to lazy to run to the toliet. Hurting a child is a very wrong thing to do.

I would not spank my children for a potty accident. But I do not believe in spanking. Talk to them about being a big girl/boy and how good it is for them to go in the potty. It is somethng that takes practice for them and it will take time. Accidents will happen. Be as patience and persistent as you can be and they will get it. Also make sure to give lots of praise when they do go in the potty. Children like to feel important, so make sure to make a big deal about it.

No, I would never punish my daughter for her bodily functions. Thats really sad. A ton of children have accidents & wet the bed. No child actually wants to have an accident, so I see no reason to embaress them further by spanking them. It's embaressing to be spanked for something like that.

Absolutely not! Reasons for these problems is never something that a child does on purpose.

If a child is over the age of 4 and continues to wet the bed, then it may be a physical problem. There are plenty of medications for that.

However, if it is a parent's instinct to punish the child...I would strongly suggest looking into emotional problems of the child.
