What are the exact thrills and dangers of it, besides cave-ins? This is for research for my novel.

i have been a caver for fifteen years,,worked on rescue trips with a blood hound.."cavers" rescue spelunkers lol
thrills are finding and mapping new caves and new passage ways in known caves,plus finding lost or hurt amateurs.

Yep - there are thrills and dangers

But you need to experience it first hand if you are researching for a novel.

This is the difference between a poor author and a good author.
A good one does not rely on others experiences.

i am in concurrence with the answer above. you need to try it yourself if you are writing a book!!!!!

it is similar (to me) to rock climbing except you are underground. great fun, good thrills, but i truthfully prefer going up rock vs. going underground.

there are some rippin cool caves out there!
