To some degree but not to a refrigerator temperature. The cold masks too much flavor in ANY beverage that actually has any. White wines are generally served too cold.
Conversely, flavorless beverages like mass produced Budweiser are purposely marketed to be served ice cold, precisely to hide the fact that they are practically water.

Chardonnay should be chilled, but not cold. Try putting a bottle in an ice bucket filled with 1/2 ice and about two cups of water, then chill for 15-20 minutes. It should be perfect for drinking - while chilled, you will still be able to taste the flavor of the wine.

Chill the bottle if you must, but pass on the ice, as it dilutes the body of the wine, and fades the bouquet.

That's true for most white wines (except dessert whites).
