It isn't as simple as people would lead you to believe, but if you meet the criteria, it shouldn't be difficult, either.

Here is canadian immigration website, it's easy to understand and all information, forms and directions are included.

Basically, you will need to apply for residency, either through a work visa, by having family members in canada sponser you, or if you are a professional (doctor, lawyer, teacher). Also, if you have any criminal record, certain amount of time must pass, and other things apply (this includes DWI).

I am an American immigrating to Canada, and I love it here. I am on the West Coast though, don't know much about Toronto.

I beleive it's pretty easy. There are many US citizens living here already. Eventually you'll need to get Canadian citizenship and you can maintain your US citizenship. Then you will be a dual citizen ! Careful though you may want to check out the tax implications etc. Maybe check with the US consulate in Toronto for details or hopefully a US citizen living here will read this and offer more info.
Good luck and Welcome to Canada !

You'll have to apply to become a permanent resident of Canada. You can get information about immigrating from the Immigration Canada web site.
