I pondered a similar question once: "If we have free will and are able to choose between right and wrong, how was it that Jesus foresaw at the Last Suppoer what Judas was going to do? Does that mean that Judas was destined to commit this terrible sin and he had no choice in the matter? If so, and he had no free will, why did Jesus condemn him?"

A previous commenter gave the answer I sought when I pondered this question, as did Saint Thomas Aquainis (sp?) 500 years ago: the present is only a thin boundary between the past, which we can perceive, and the future, which we are blind to. Imagine that the present isn't just a thin boundary between them but thicker: in other words, if you did something that you instantly regretted, if you caught yourself quick enough, you could undo it.... So far fetched? Not really, it's just the way our minds (and language) work. A group of native Americans are a little more advanced than the typical man in this respect: all their verbs are in present tense: they don't have a past or future tense. I won't go to the store tomorrow. I didn't go yesterday.... I am going to the store tomorrow, yesterday, now... NOW is always happening. NOW is the present... an infinite present that is always happening without a past or a future.

To get back to my original question, when Jesus made his "prediction" it wasn't so much that as an observation... being Son of God, omnipotent, or being granted the vision by His Father, He saw at the same moment Judas betraying Him. Judas still had free will to decide in the present, which is always happening, what to do.

Our perception of reality is limited: while the present is always happening, we perceive it in a skewed manner: one second at a time, remembering the past, but not seeing the future. That's the blindness we have as humans and what may be cured after we die.

As for your question, without this blindness, we see that there is no beginning or end... God and his realm just always is, as are our souls. Time has as much to do with eternity as does the price of petunias.

As for all those who say you have to accept it only on faith, it's certainly not true... such an explanation, although conjecture, pushes the limits of our minds to reason and explain what we observe and are told. Don't stop questioning... it is through testing your faith that it grows truly strong and something you can rely on. Sometimes such dilemmas are beyond the limits of our reasoning and that's when you especially need to pray for knowledge, understanding, and faith.

Good question though!!! :-)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1. In the the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:1 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2. The triune God, the God in three parts, the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all present at creation. God is outside of space and time. You can't put Him in a box. He is the Great I Am! Which means I exist or I will be. Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring knowledge of His Holy Bible.

Time is an illusion. Matter is not what it appears to be. Space is relative. Nothing about the universe is as it appears. But there can be little doubt there is something about us that is very real. Who are we to wonder who made us? The entire physical universe operates by the law of entropy, all things tend toward a state of maximum disorder. Everything had to start from something. If in the beginning there were only lifeless energy and matter, how is it that matter would have gathered itself into a complex organism like the human being? That would be completely opposite how the physical universe of matter and energy work. There is such a thing as conscious awareness and I don't think this originated from matter and energy. We have no reason to believe one is a consequence of the other, or that they exist independently. We only assume things like rocks or electrons aren't consiously aware of existence. We also don't have any way of knowing which came first if they are separate things.

If your a Christian, you should ask him.

Seek out the question and he will give you the answer.

It might take some time, and you gotta be persistant.

I don't know because its honestly never bothered me. I know he exists so how he came into existance is irrelevant to me.

P.S. If you get confused with the standard Bible, you should try reading the New Jerusalem Bible. You gotta get it at a bookstore or library. There is one available online, but unfortunately it is mislabeled as it is the regular Bible.

Anyway, it is taken from the dead sea scrolls which is 1800 years old and is much more clear and has less confusion or contradiction than the standard NIV or King James(as these were passed down and rewritten so many times)

No one can understand this. Even if we take God out of the picture, we're still left with the exact same problem - something ALWAYS existing (whether that something is a process, potential, etc.). I used to think about this over and over when I was a kid and then would get almost panicky thinking about how something without cause exists (only those who have REALLY thought about this and all its implications can fully understand what you're getting at). Apparently, those who have an enlightenment experience resolve questions like this. The enlightenment experience has been realized by people in all relgions and no religion (for christians, look at St John of the Cross and Meister Eckhart; for an excellent Zen perspective, look at '3 Pillars of Zen').

It's good that you're asking questions -- blindly swallowing somebody's else's theology without thinking about it isn't very bright, and often leads to trouble. Question what people tell you, and look for explanations that make sense, not the kind of answers you'll often get (such as "don't question god" or "because god says so"). While you're at it, think about whether or not there's any need for god at all...do we need a god for the universe, the earth, and us to have come into existence? Is there any need for belief in god now, given that there's no evidence of his/her existence, that there's no direct intervention in human life by any gods, that our tradition of belief in gods was handed down by ignorant, superstitious, fearful people who were just trying to explain things they didn't understand by assigning natural occurrences to "god" because they didn't know any better?

The more you question things, the more you can seek out real answers. You won't find answers to everything, but you can find out a lot of "truth" that religious leaders would rather you didn't know...I wish you success in your quest.

Oh, and by the way...nobody understands how god was "just there" in the beginning. The bible doesn't cover it, and science has shown there was no need for him or her to be there at all. And "beginning" may itself just be a human concept, there may not ever have been one...that's what I mean when I say you may not find all your answers :)

Eternity is a concept that we are not able to comprehend amongst other things that God will reveal to us. The same way that you could not understand the concept of reading if you didnt know the letters of the alphabet, there really is no way to understand the existance of God without being able to fully understand eternity. We are only capable of understanding things as it results to the beginning and end of something. We are not capable of thinking outside of that concept. Even as spiritual human beings- Technically we have ALWAYS been in existance, however we were put into our body at the time that our mothers became pregnant. Until we die and we are released from our bodies we will not have the concept of eternity.

i'm mormon, and in the LDS church, we do have self assurance that Jesus is the son of god. human beings get this mixed up plenty. do not difficulty. Jesus and God are literally not a similar human beings. they are seperate beings. each body in this earth is a toddler of God and chosen to adhere to Christ in heaven. there turned right into a conflict in heaven. a million/3 followed devil. Christ is called the son of god because he did not something incorrect. He toched no unclean difficulty and changed into an excellent get mutually to each and each body. He changed into crucified and he died for each body'S wrongs. that's why he's called the son of God. he will come back. on the second one coming and no body is general with even as which will be. it truly is what the LDS church believes. i am hoping that helped.

The bible says that God is from everlasting to everlasting meaning that He has always been, and hard as that is to understand we have to remember that we have finite minds. There are some things that we can't understand, but that doesn't make them impossible. In 2 Corinthians 5:7 it states "For we walk by faith, not by sight" .

God exsists in eternity, not in temporal time as we know it. Eternity has no beginning and no end, like a circle. In this temporal universe, everything has a beginning and an end. God created the temporal universe to exsist outside eternity, and only God has the ability to be in eternity and be active in temporal time as well (as opposed to catholic doctrine, which teaches that you can pray to saints in heaven). When you die and go to heaven, or hell, you enter eternity, therefore, when you get to heaven, anyone that has or will (from a temporal point of view) gone to heaven, is already there because there is no time in eternity. It is a bit confusing, it takes a little while to sink in.
