some "irresponsible" individuals on here ask questions about their pregnant cats and newborn kittens. they say that there is something wrong with them and they're sick. well guess what, if you would have spayed your cat then you wouldn't be worried about it and wouldn't be asking these question!! it's like DUH!!!! it's not rocket science people!!!! I'm talking about the people who just DO NOT choose to fix their pets. oh, and if anybody says that it's to expensive to spay/neuter your cat then you are dead wrong! you can take your pet to your local SPCA and they will gladly spay/neuter your cat for almost NOTHING!! peolple are so ignorant!! I'm just trying to get a very imporant point across to them and what do they do, they report me for saying how I feel about their situation. it's VERY hard for me to be nice to individuals like them because they seem like they just don't care!!!! these people can't handle the truth!!! I guess for them the truth really does hurt!

I educate them about the overpopulation of unwanted cats/kits in this country. they report me anyway!! they tell me that's it's none of my business!!! yes, it is my business because I'm paying thousands of dollars to our society for the animal shelter in my local area!!! their unwanted pets end up thrown in a shelter and then everybody in our society is paying more money for the SPCA and animal shelters to have more cages and more equipment to help these innocent animals. way too many unwanted pets are arriving each day!!! you're putting. I mean, I don't mind giving my money to them, in fact I think it's for a great cause, but still people don't have to contribute more overpopulation than there already is!!! I mean, come on!!

pessimomtomis: I didn't know that and I do agree with you about this! that's soooo stupid that of all places the SPCA wouldn't neuter a pet. but, there is something that I still have to say, if people can not afford at least $25-40 to spay/neuter their pet then in my opinion they have no business owning them. think about it, what are they going to do for vaccinations, when they get sick, etc. anything could happen to their pet and they can't afford it so they just try some home remedy and that may make the problem seriously worse. "some" people want to own cats/dogs for absolutly nothing. thats not possible! sorry!! there WILL come a time when they have to spend some money on them. sooner or later it will happen!

Nayely: yea, almost nothing. here in Dallas you can take them up to the SPCA of Texas and they'll spay/neuter ALL of your pets for only $20!!! I read this on their website when I was checking out the kittens up for adoption!! (I adopted my 5 month old male from them almost two months ago.) I totally agree with you, I'm sooooooo sick of these over paid vets!!! I can afford it but it's just gotten way out of hand and to expensive. it's ridiculous!

because they are irresponsible, uneducated pet owners!! Keep on telling those people to spay and neuter, I agree with you completely! This may be the ONLY place these people get educated about pets....which is unfortunate..but someone has to educate them!! So, keep up the good work.

People need to be educated about spay/neuter. When you reply to them about spaying or neuter their pet when their pet is already pregnant or kittens are sick, their natural response will be to be defensive, since they are being told that maybe they didn't do the right thing letting their pet get pregnant and they are lashing back out at you for lack of better response. I'm sure your message is getting through to them. Meanwhile, there needs to be an effort to educate children about pet overpopulation, combined with free spay/neuter in each community and also transportation, since believe it or not, many don't have the ability to take a pet to the vet or even afford a token fee. And people shouldn't say they shouldn't have pets if you can't afford vet bills. Have you been to a vet lately? These people take these animals that otherwise would suffer a slow death on the streets or breed more animals that would be picked up and killed at shelter at taxpayers expense. They can afford to feed them and deserve to have a family pet, just like you and me. If you want to read a story that might explain to children why it is a good idea to spay or neuter their pets,

To sister cat: There are humane traps called "have a heart" (do a web search "have a heart cat trap" that I have used in the past to catch feral cats to spay them. If you don't want to purchase one, ask a local cat shelter to let you rent one.

April, I don't know why you get reported, but I've got news for you. Not every community has an SPCA....mine doesn't. Up until recently our local "pound's" method of handling unwanted cats was to shoot them! Thank goodness that has changed! However, when I did live where there was an SPCA, they DID NOT spay or neuter your cat. The only ones they spayed or neutered were the ones that were adopted out of the shelter. There are a lot of other organizations that will assist with low-cost spaying and neutering, but not everybody knows about them. They don't exactly have big advertisement budgets. They have a hard enough time getting enough donations to take care of the requests for assistance from the people who have been lucky enough to have been informed of their existence. Our local organization is no more, because of lack of support. Our local vet (that's right, vet, singular!) is happy about it because he wasn't making any profit on his service in cooperation with them. So don't be quite so hard on people, their options may not be quite as varied as they are where you live. Also, for some of us, 25-40 dollars is not "almost nothing"!

I agree with you, and I don't know why anyone would turn you in for that.
If people would spay/neuter their pets there would be far fewer unwanted dogs and cats in the world.
There is really no excuse, except I think people are sometimes lazy. In my city, the SPCA and a couple of other organizations will spay/neuter your pet for free if you are on any kind of government assistance. I'm betting it's like that most places. Money doesn't need to be an issue, even for those on assistance.

I guess because some people think that the way they do things is better than others I'm a breeder and even I know that if a cat dog or etc. have too many offspring they will develop medical problems. My mother got so pissed because I spayed my cat Yuma, She thinks it's unnatural, yet she got her tubes tied after her 4th child. It's incredible how some people contradict themselves. And are you serious that the SPCA will spay/neuter for almost nothing? I'm tired of expensive vet visits.

Asking questions about the health of pregnant cats and newborn kittens doesn't make a person irresponsible. Spaying and/or neutering the cats may not, necessarily, stop what is making the cat sick.
Coloring factual advice with insults might be the reason you get reported. Respecting your intelligence, I'm sure you already know that abuse is a fusion of the words "abnormal use."

Dear April, I agree with you, however I had a situation where my cat got pregnant too. I got 2 kitties from a friend, they were siblings Maxy and Bushy, they were 6 weeks old when I got them. My doctor told me to have them fixed at 6 months. I had never owned a cat before it was my first time, so I was just following my vets advise, when my kitties turned 5 months old my husband and I were moving from OK to KY (military orders) the night she came in heat was the night that we had to stay on an empty house waiting for next day to leave, my husband and I put her in a cage and my male cat too, there was nothing we could do then, but put both of them in a cage. In the morning BOTH cats had manage to get out of the cage, both of them had bloody paws! it was amazing....anyway, we didn't think anything happen and didn't really think about it too much because we were so busy moving, anyway, we got to KY and I had to register my pets on post. I made an appointment to have them fixed and the day I dropped her off, vet called me and told me she could not be fixed because she was pregnant! I was so surprised! anyway, Bushy got fixed at 6 months and maxy was fixed at 9 months. She had 5 little babies and we kept them and took care of them for 3 months, then we found homes for them.
I am telling you this story because it seems that you are being a bit mad about the topic when you don't really know the stories. It is cheapper to have them fixed in the SPCA BUT not everybody lives near one, like us, we live far from any of them, but we believe we are responsible owners and got our pets fixed a month too late. I believe that if people are asking questions about how to help their pets is because they DO care. Hey... at least they are open for suggestions. So do not call everybody "irresponsible" just because for whatever circumstance our pets had babies. My kitties are still with me and they are healthy and I love them to death.
On the other side I do agree that neglecting our pets is a crime.

Well, I would not report anyone just for being honest.
That being said...our neighbor moved and she left about half a dozen of her cats. One of them showed up half starved in my back yard. I thought I could feed her and she would warm up to me. Then I would take her to the Humane Society and have her fixed. Well, I thought I was fattening her up but she was, in fact, pregnant. Now she has had 3 kittens, one who died the first week. The other two came to live with us in the house when they were 6 weeks old. They have had all their shots now that they are 12 weeks and I have made an appointment to have both of them fixed (September 8th). I still can't get the mama cat to even let me pet her much less pick her up. Any thoughts from you on how I can capture her and take her to the Humane Society where I can get her all her shots and have her spayed? I tried the kennel with food in it but she won't even go near it. Our dog loves the thing...can't keep him out of it!

I haven't read your replies but I see people write the same thing you do all the time and they don't get reported. Although I do agree with you, just adopt from an animal shelter, they neuter them by law, I do see situation where you would get reported. I.e. if you were preachy, if you called them stupid or dumb (in which case, you're aren't really trying to get them to do something, oftentimes if you piss people off, they do the exact opposite) you are more trying to make them feel bad. Regardless, if you're getting reported a lot, it might mean you're being rude and most people (myself included, I can't stand rude people) don't like that.

Just like you want people to respect your opinion, they want you to respect theirs too. Some people simply do not want to spay or neuter their pets for whatever reason and may find it offensive if someone questions what they think is right. Just take time to make sure your answers suggest that fixing a pet is an option, but not the only one. After all, it is true, regardless of morals.

That's odd. I tell people all the time to spay/neuter their pets and I've never been reported.
And I agree that it is much cheaper to fix a pet than to care for even one litter until they are old enough to give away, let alone several litters.
