I am training in Ju-jitsu and Mauy Tai and I find that taking someone to the ground is harder than it looks. I want something else to accent these styles with throws and takedowns what would be the best one?

All of those forms have merit, the one thing I would say about wrestling is you have to be willing to go in after a person to take them down. If you are not willing to sweep in and hope your opponent is not good enough to get out of the way then you don't want to try wrestling. But what happens if you sweep for a leg and commit and your opponent counters blocking your move, your suddenly at a disadvantage. A very big disadvantage if you have not studied how to fight from the ground, I don't mean fight on the ground with someone but fight from the ground while they remain standing.

The other forms allow you to take a strike or kick and turn it into a throw. This has more advantages as your opponent then has to be the one to commit before you react. As I've said in other answers also check out Shuai Chiao as this is similar to Judo but relies more on joint locks to complete the through. Judo relies heavily on grabbing the Gi to complete many of their throws.

Best way to find out is to check out the schools in your area and ask to watch a class, or better yet see if they will let you sit in and practice one class with them as well.

I would suggest Western Medieval martial arts for this, especially from the works of Johannes Lichtenhauer, Sigmund Ringeck and Hans Talhoffer. Those styles are better adapted to Westerners' larger, heavier frames, and they are extremely brutal. There is not that much about ground fighting, but if you do things right you will not need to since it uses something akin to Aikido and Judo to perform the moves, along with some really nasty holds and grabs that are designed to cause extreme damage to bones and articulations with minimal effort. Also, they are excellent when dealing with armed opposition when you are unarmed yourself.

The best martial art for take-downs is the one you are willing to spend the time to learn. All of the arts you mention have good take-downs, but unless you practice them a lot and get really good at them, it will be hard to perform. Remember the other guy is training on how to NOT be taken down. There is no easy panacea, you sinply have to train and train and train until you are better at take-downs than your opponent is at preventing them.

Martial arts take time to develop, and no matter what you do, even simple self defense techniques, you have to spend the time to learn them so well that you don't have to think about using them, you can react quickly to protect yourself.

For simple single leg and or double leg takedowns....I'd reccomend good old fashion Grecco-Roman Wrestling anyday.

Judo's more for sweeps, throws, etc.

Aikido's more for teaching someone the subtleties of throwing and dynamic taisabaki over simply taking someone down.

All three have value, it just depends on what you're looking for at the end of it all.

In Judo you use the other guy's force in order to take him down, and is a good discipline because it's more like street fighting, don't know much about the Aikido technique, sorry.

Take down? Definitely wrestling. Judo is for sweeping, tripping, and trhowing but still very effective.

freestyle or greco roman wrestling is your best bet for taking someone down. For the takedowns I would say freestyle and for throws i would say greco roman.
