Is it good to love someone from afar? Someone you know you ought not approach because she is taken, but you cant help the feelings that you have. Or is this unrequieted love an invitation to craziness...pure and utter madness?

Great diction on your question. Love from afar meaning you don't tell them rather than love from another state or country is natural, but you have to keep in mind that if they are taken they are just that in the end, taken. Besides the fact that we all are capable of love with a variety of people, if you are that interested in this person let them know you have an interest so that if things are not as peachy as they seem then you are there to support them in their time of need.

it isn't good,...

consider this, you will just make yourself unavailable to a potential suitor, even if that person is obviously flirting and showing interest in you.
You won't give in because you will always be distracted, sub-consciously not all there.

You will end up being a single unattached bitter old fart, without any true happiness in your miserable life. Regardless of whether you are a guy or a girl.

What matters, is what is important. Do you want happiness, then move on and find someone who will make your dreams come true and live happily ever after.

Its your choice.

If you cant have them it will just drive you insane. Whats the point of feeling those feelings if you cant move on them ? And how will that affect your relationships with other women ? Its not good.
