Oh how I loved to catfish!!!! I'm no longer able but I can still remember some great times! Cats like stinky, bloody stuff. I've never found anything better than turkey liver. It stays on the bait better than chicken liver. Bill Hall, a meteorologist out of Nashville and a great fisherman, said to put a small cube of Velveeta and half a stick of Dentyne on the hook. Tried it; it works! You can make tiny bags of bloody chicken liver bait using panty hose squares also. They like early mornings, late evenings and overnight feeding. I have found them close to the bank, far out in deep water, and around points. They are usually close to the bottom because they're "cleaners" of the bottom. Real hot weather is not the best time. Here in southern Tennessee, October's a great catfish month. Hey....eating them's pretty good year round with hush puppies and hot slaw. YUM!

I fish for channel catfish all the time. Go above and below dams or deep water. I buy a couple decoy suckers about 12 inches long and cut them in to golf ball size chunks and put on a circle hook. If you cannot find these catch some carp and chop those up or pick up some pike suckers, check your state laws before you do that though. Chicken liver is suppose to work good, but it falls off. Ive found the best time to catch these is from sun down til sun up, but you can catch them anytime. I have never had in luck on the hot and sunny days. Ive pulled out some pretty large ones using this bait, Ill never go back to anything else. Good luck fishin! and bring a net :)

use Chicken liver and let it sink to the bottom and you will get a bite within minutes. They will eat pretty much anything. For depths they are usually pretty close to the shore Line and live around rotten logs and stuff. The best time is either early morning or at sunset. I went today when the sun was going down and my bait didn't even have a chance to get to the bottom before they hit it.

stinky cheese bait always catches them on the arkansas river. best time has been early/mid morning. best months in arkansas are June/July/August/Sept. When the water temp begins to cool they really bite well but turn off about Oct. some folks do well in the cold water. i don't seem to catch as many then.
as for depth, if the water is 30ft deep then we usually fish 10-15 ft, or about half the depth. we might have a pole with bait on the bottom, but the half rule seems to work well. good luck.
