When I was 7, my mom had me get my hair cut really short and then I had a "poodle perm". It was horrible.
After that I had a "pixie" haircut all the time.
My dad always thought I looked really good with that haircut, and even after I was an adult, thought that I should wear my hair like that.

Yup. I still remember being maybe 5 or 6 and my grandma cut my bangs. I tried to get out of it, but she insisted. My mom hated it, but she didn't want me to go through the "growing out" phase so she kept cutting it until high school when I was like, "Yeeeah, I'm gonna risk growing it out" (smart decision!). Man, those bangs were bad. A straight line in the middle of my forehead that often flipped into little horns.
By the way, I think forcing someone to cut their hair is not only traumatic, it also habitiates them too strongly to conform. And although moderate socialization is a good thing, too much conformity and a fear of saying "No" is a dangerous thing.

My mom always made me get this horrible short haircut that was almost a bowl cut, but not quite. And she always cut my bangs too short and it looked retarded. She thought it looked cute and she didn't think I'd be able to handle the maintenance on long hair. I remember one girl in first grade picked on me and said I looked like a boy. I grew it out in fifth grade and didn't cut it short again until a couple years ago (I'm 23). And I got rid of the bangs and got a much more stylish cut.

Oh lord yes. My Mom was way too into hair and not in a good way. I had a dutch boy cut complete with bangs and kids called me Cleopatra. My sister had longer hair that my Mom always put into a pony tail with tied up with yarn, usually orange or yellow yarn. Ugh...........................
My Mom also wasn't into change so this is the way we wore our hair until we were old enough to rebel. At that point I went to the Mall and got a TON of layers! LOL

Up until last year I had a really thick, blunt haircut with full bangs that hit just up to under my ears. i call it a 'box' if you know what i mean - sort of a rectangular haircut w/no layers/texture. Its a cute style but i have a round face and dont look good w that.

Every year on the last day of school my parent s would make me go get my hair cut really short short for the summer. I hated it. To this day my mother still thinks when summer rolls around I should go get my hair cut. She's 82 and I'm fifty, I guess she still thinks I am a little kid.

as a child my father thought it appropriate not to cut my hair at all (i'm middle aged) and had my hair in 2 braids until i reached about 8 years old. then i kind of exerted my opinion and was allowed to have it cut about shoulder length...no more braids!!! i've since had more hair styles and colors than you can imagine, because i think it's so fun!! my children as they were growing up were allowed to do pretty much what they wanted with their hair because i've always felt that it was an extension of themselves, and it was THEIR hair, so they had some pretty funky hair styles and colors. as india arie would say, i am not my hair!

My parents just didn't want to see me in long hair as a teenager or while I lived under their roof of rules. I was able, though, to express myself, within tolerable limits, with my haircut or style. Religious affiliation, as well as family representation, to the public, weighed alot on my choice of hair style. Couldn't wait to turn adult age and move out, and on!

It's all just a matter of personal preference. We have short hair and guys just like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a person with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look also girly.

No, she never forced me to do my hair some way I didn't want. Mind you, she gets really funny about dying my hair and I'm still too scared to change it drastically in case she doesn't like it and I'm 18!! Oh well, off to uni soon, I'll do what I want lol
