I have seen no reason to believe in any gods and have many reasons not to (an understanding of how the human psyche works was a big factor) but I know I could be wrong, I doubt it but it could be. This doesn't mean that I think I'm right just because I think so, it means I see the facts one way and it doesn't seem to point to any higher power at all.

I always see people saying "Don't you know you'll go to Hell?" or "Jesus is the only way." And it makes me laugh, not in a mean way, I just can't help it. Just that the Bible was reassembled by power hungry politicians is enough for me to disregard most of what it says. I mean, if there was a god and Jesus was his son I doubt he meant for people to be such cut throat followers, even if you find evidence of a god (doubtful) you'll never find any that supports religion, a man made establishment. Evidence for one god is evidence for all gods. To me it seems like religion has it all wrong no matter what. Anyone else?

I completly agree. I am agnostic. I am a very spiritual person but I believe that religion is just people's way of dealing with day to day delimas. I don't think it is wrong to be religious, I just don't believe in it. If I am wrong, send me to hell, I wouldn't want to worship a God that only has one way anyhow.

I certainly can follow your logic.

The only problem is that with FAITH, there isn't a lot of room for doubt. Just allowing for the possibility that there IS a God, and that Jesus will come back some day and all the faithful believers will be going to heaven with Him... does it really make sense to take a doubtful position? What will the agnostics say, in that case.... "sorry, I just couldn't quite accept it..." ?

In other words.... if you are not totally convinced that there is NOT a God... then you believe that there COULD be a God... why not follow that faith and at least try to be what God tells us we should be.

Seems to me there's just too much to lose by not allowing yourself to fully believe and practice your faith as best you can.

Your opinions are your own and you have a right to them. After all God did give you free will which included freedom to turn your back on the evidence.

[Heb 11:1] Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.

[Rom 1:18] The wrath of God is indeed being revealed from heaven against every impiety and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
[Rom 1:19] For what can be known about God is evident to them, because God made it evident to them.
[Rom 1:20] Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse;
[Rom 1:21] for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened.
[Rom 1:22] While claiming to be wise, they became fools

I pray God will touch your heart.

Go to wikipedia and read the article on
Pascal's Wager

Pascal was a mathematician. He weighs the cost of belief in God against a possible or non-existent benefit. Read it and enjoy.

I think the main problem with agnosticism is that it is sort of a tautologous position. In other words, if there isn't a God, then the agnostics were right and if there is a God, then the agnostics were right.

I'm not an agnostic but I think they're usually right on.

Haven't seen anyone prove God/Gods

Haven't seen anyone disprove God/Gods

In that way, they could be closest to being right.

I guess you could say that admitting you don't have the answers would be the most accurate statement regarding religion.

However, most people will not do that, so unlike-minded individuals need to keep reminding them that they do not have all the answers by providing their own answers..

forget about religion.. it is a technique to control people, it hijacks God and tells people that it is the only (right) way they can enjoy God. otherwise God will be mad at them and hence send them to Hell. all religion are alike in that sense. well, if you forget about that nonsense, would the idea of God still make sense to you?

Only those whose egos/self have dropped away and have had an enlightenment experience are 'closest'. The rest of us are all dealing with perception, concepts, etc.

I also agree. It can be shown that it is impossible to prove the existence (or non-existence) of god, so I choose to keep life simple by taking the negative.
