Permanent is just that... permanent. It will fade a little, but not as much as the semi-perm kinds. If you don't want to have to dye it every couple of months you might want to go for a semi-permanent kind... then the roots won't show as bad. The directions on the box usually say not to wash your hair 24 hours before dying. And you shouldn't wash it right after... you could mess up the dye, or have the color not come out as dark. (Though, I've washed mine right after dying and never had a problem... just use a little bit of shampoo and wash it out right away)

Do not wash your hair the day you color it - the natural oils on your scalp help protect it from the chemicals. Read the instructions!
Do not wash right after, either. Anything you read will tell you that -- it's recommended to wait at least 24 hours before using shampoo (48 hours is even better). Just follow the instructions and do what they say. That's why they are there.
When you apply the dye, it's best to start with the crown (top, toward the back) of your head and then work your way down - you'll be a tiny bit darker on top, like your "real" color would be, because you started there first)
As far a permanent color, the only thing I've ever found that was permanent was the amount that the chemicals lightened my hair. The actual "color" always fades pretty bad after about 2-3 weeks (and yes, I've tried the "color protection" shampoos out there. They don't work). Of course, I dye mine red, and reds are the WORST for fading.

permanent it means it wont go but as it had been said it would fade and you need to re-boost it again after about 6 weeks and 4 if it was red
you shouldn't wash your hair before dyeing it because there wouldn't be a protective lid on the scalp that may result in some irritation.
you can use shampoo after dying it clean like 3 times tops
tip: if you know a cream called Vaseline get it and have it over the edges of your hair and ears coz if you went off line you don't want to have smudges over them.
why don't you try the 6 wash shampoo color before getting the permanent one just to be sure if you liked the color or not.
start from the forehead to the back.

yes it really will be permanent. if you dont want it to stay, try a semi-permanent hairclor which will slowly fade away and be gone after 16-20 washes.
no you really shouldnt wash your hair before dying it. wash it the day before because your scalp produces natural oils that protect it from the chemicals of hair dye. sometimes it doesnt really matter whether you wash it before or not but its better to be safe than sorry.
and no you shouldnt shampoo right after dying because that would rinse a lot of the dye out. only use the conditioner that is included in the box. you can wash your hair with shampoo 1 or 2 days later.

No dye is permanent but some last longer and are more fade resistant.
DO NOT SHAMPOO BEFORE OR JUST AFTER !!!!! NEVER (the product is designed to lather and be rinsed til it runs clear but does not require an extra shampooing)
Follow all the instructions that came with the product, be careful about splashing it on the walls (Its more permanent there).
Hmmm...sounds like there are some seriously mis-used heads of hair out there - ladies read the instructions, they are there for a reason!

They say you're supposed to put it on clean, dry hair. It's OK to use it the day after you shampoo, not necessary to shampoo & dry, and then apply the dye. I don't wash my hair right before, because the dye can irritate your scalp if you open the pores right before dying. Yes, if it says permanent, it is not going to wash out once it dries. A couple weeks later, you will see roots that are your old color. You can dye them with special roots only plastic bottles, if you wish. I believe it always says not to shampoo right after you dye your hair. Just apply conditioner and that's all. When the dye is fresh, shampooing could cause some fading. Best not to do that.

Yes the supermarket stuff will really stay permanment, don't wash your hair before you dye it, the dye will hold better on unwashed hair. I never do but you can if you want. The only reason I say I don't is because I use a conditionar that comes with the hair dye that I get right after I dye my hair.

permanant just means that it won't wash out, but it'll grow out. You'll occassionally have to touch up your roots. Follow the instructions on the box, but generally you shouldn't wash the same day you dye because it'll take the natural oils that protect your scalp. Only shampoo after dying if the instructions call for it. Most likely you'll just rinse until the water runs clear & then condition.

Start buying hair coloring products from specialty stores like Sallys. Their color kits are better and just as cheap.
Also - yes you DO want to use shampoo after you dye it. You need to get the dye out. Dont just use conditioner, like the directions say. Wash it at least twice after coloring, and then condition.

Yes you can shampoo after dying it..I always do in mine.
Permanent color is just that...permanent. The color does fade after a few weeks if you don't condition it properly. You also do NOT want to wash it daily after you color it because that can cause some fading.
You may want to go for a hair color booster after about 4 weeks.
