Do it yourself? Or gently remind her, and thank her for helping.

I remember with my first wife, this very topic was the first really big fight we had after we got married (alas, only the beginning). I have since learned the rule which all couples must go by or risk the demise of the relationship.
The rule: "He or she that loadeth the dishwasher decideth the best way to do it. He or she that observeth keepeth his or her mouth at rest."
Experts around the world have sought other solutions; trust me, the rule must be followed. The only other possible way that has been found is to blame it on the dishwasher and not on the way she is loading it. For example, "Oh honey, this dishwasher is really crappy; it can't even get pots clean, so we'll need to do the pots by hand; maybe we can do it together; I'll wash and you dry!" But, if she persists, you must revert back to The Rule which must be followed.

I hate when people do this. Can you tell her they do not get clean? How about turning them over and fixing it before it runs perhaps she will get the idea. I told someone that I had to run the diswasher 3x because of this. I am not sure if they still got the idea. This upsets me too. Water and heat are expensive. I just fix it after telling them and say the water cannot get to these and I do not want to waste water. I think it is nice she is making dinner how about you do the dishes and be nice if she makes dinner?
Yeah you do the dishes that would be sweet after she fixes you a nice dinner. If she does it just fix it and run it. If she has already started it then stop it re-arange it quietly and start it back up. It bugs me when people do this, but I am paying the people who do this wrong, so I have an excuse. This is your sweet loving girlfriend and you are lucky to have her. Tell her you are going to do the dishes and be sweet and hug her do not bug her about it and do not fight about it. Tell her dinner was enough and she was sweet to do that. Tell her you have a junky diswasher and have to baby it.

Show her how to do it and how not to do it. Then tell her you will hit her over the head with anything dirty that comes out of the dishwasher after she has loaded it the next time. After getting hit over the head a few times with a large skillet/pan she should get the point. Or you could tell her it's broke next time & let her hand wash em.
Good Luck!

I have a similar problem. Our dishwasher sucks and my girlfriend never bothers to rinse the dishes before she loads them, which leaves us with washed dishes covered in food particles... eww.
The only solution I've come up with is I always make sure to do the dishes, but on the plus side I don't have to do laundry anymore.

Pick on her about it. Pretend to be all bossy and jokingly tell her that she needs to remember that pots don't go over the sprayer. Then, give her a spanking for being bad. :) Everybody wins!

Well I am a little like your girlfriend. and my daughter. is worst. for she is slightly handicapped. but if you kindly ask her to watch you once ,and how happy it would make you to do it together, the both of you can do it until she gets the message, If this is the only thing she screws up. just fix it later, and forget it. she prob ably has a lot of talent to do something else. more fun.

Tell her you want to be sure to keep your machine and dishes working properly and show her how to help you do that. Have her watch you do it and ask her to keep in mind how you like it done, or she should just wait for you to do it if she cant remember

Let it go...it's not worth getting into a tiff about...be glad she's willing to help tidy up...you can always rearrange the pots when she leaves...
If only that were the biggest issue any couple here had...lol!
