Would you go with a traditional couple cake top, monogram cake top, or modern design cake top (like a clear acrylic square with etched double heart design personalized with names & date)? Other suggestions welcomed...I am so indecisive!

I am a professional cake decorator. Its really your personal preference, but most couples are choosing monograms right now. They are really inexpensive and look really nice on top of a cake. This opotion is finding a website that makes replica sculptures of you and your husband to be. They can make almost anything you want. They are rather pricey but so sentimental and fun. Good Luck.

Be careful with the clear acrylic. It can lower the classiness of your cake really fast if you aren't careful. I love the monogram cake toppers.
I just got mine (after months of looking) last month and it is small and simple. I actually managed to find a simple bride & groom dancing figurine that didn't plastic glued to it or really tacky paint! It's very hard to do. Keep it simple. Our cake topper isn't even going to go on the cake. We're going to put it on the table in front of the cake.
If you really can't decide, use flowers from the flower girl's basket of from a bridesmaid's bouquet and arrange a few on the top of the cake. You can place petals here and there on different tiers of the cake and it will be really romantic... without adding on any expense.

I like the idea of the monogram, but for me personally I love flowers, my colors were wine (burgundy)/off white, w/gold accents. My sister did my cake with offwhite frosting and a few burgundy accents, and topped the cake with fresh burgundy roses, and surrounded it with some rose petals and rose shaped candles encased in little crystal holders- it was beautiful- I think roses give the cake an eternal classy look, and it can be seen from afar since the color of the roses really stands out in contrast to the cake. Good luck and go with what really captures your eye no matter what anyone else says.

Depends on the type of cake. For a more traditional cake(spread frosting with ribbons and frosting flowers) I would stick with a couple top. For a more modern cake (the sheet frosting w/ pearls or real flowers) I would got with the etched hearts.

My sister in law had a cake topper where the bride was pulling the broom. It was funny and totally appropriate for this couple. It depends on how traditional your entire wedding will be. If you have a traditional wedding with a comtemporary topper it might look at little bit off. But, ultimately it's what you want. I just had a simple white bride and groom.

I like the monogram idea, especially if it is in sterling silver. OR you could do an attached tier cake with flowers going up one side... then do a monogram on top in a matching icing....

I am getting married in 3 weeks. Our cake has flowers starting at the top and cascading down the side. I think the bride and groom on top is tacky anymore. But it is your wedding and the good thing is that you can choose what ever you want. good luck and congratulations.

I would just go for fresh flowers. If you really want traditional go for the couple cake top. That's not my personal style, but do what you want...it's your wedding :)
