Busiest time is after work (between 4 to 7)
and yeah, and im not fat! im not skinny either, i'm 5'8'' and i weight about 155 lbs....so im pretty average...
When i started going, I couldn't bench press for sh!t
.....and i didn't want my friend to spot me, so I ended up going by myself, with 10 lbs on each side.
I lifted it twice, and next thing you know, POOF, it fell on me.....and I COULDNT LIFT IT BACK UP. So this big tough muscular-'roid up guy comes and gets the bar off me with one hand. People were staring, heads down, snickering, holding in their laughters....oh god the embarassement!

Yes I've been laughed at but not because of what I look like, just because I was using the treadmill wrong, ha.
I think the least budiest time to go to the gym to work out is when everybody is AT work. Lots of people go to the gym after work. So maybe before or a little after lunchtime is a better time to go.

I know it's hard not to let it bother you, but that's my best advice. You're doing something good for your health, and chances are if you keep at it, you won't be a bigger person for long! Don't be discouraged.
There are lots of forms of exercise you can do without going to the gym. For example you could take up walking or jogging around your neighborhood or get an aerobics DVD or tape for at home.
If you ever get a really rude comment I always think a good comeback is: "What, fat people aren't supposed to exercise? I thought that was our problem!"

I just started going to the gym with a personal trainer and I thought it was going to be awful, like people would be staring at me all the time. Luckily nothing like that has happened. I go between noon and 1, not many people frequent the gym on their lunch breaks so it is a good time

I use to weigh 262 & I was terrified about going in the gym. So I would go late in the evening. But I soon found out how nice & polite people are there & that they are too busy working on themselves to notice me. I have lost 87 pounds so far & am now friends with alot of the bodybuilders there. They told me that they admired the way I am doing something about my weight & that they would rather see a big person working out at the gym than seeing them sitting home doing nothing about their weight. They have given me lots of advice on fitness & nutrition. Dont let fear of being looked at or something being said to you get in your way. Keep going & working out cause it is so worth it. God bless & good luck ! Once you start going every day you will soon get to where you dont care if anyone is looking cause you will start feeling so much better about yourself. Take a cd player or a walkman with your favorite music with you & you will be listening to your music & working out more cause the music really helps. It gets your mind off of whether or not anyone is watching you.

Don't let it get to you. If you feel that being overweight is a problem, then you are taking a step in the right direction by going to a gym and working out. After a while you'll get in shape, then have fun rejecting all the guys who made fun of you when they try to ask you out.

Most people at most gyms are very supportive of overweight people working out.
I've never seen or heard of anyone laughing at an overweight person - but I have seen the opposite, people encouraging them and helping them.

People at the gym are too busy thinking about themselves and wondering how they look to others.
They are no different than you.
