There's your answer right there - you COAX him!! You need to become the pack leader - almost all dogs are much happier if they do not have to be the leader in their relationship with their humans. You train your dog by telling him what you want, showing him how to do it and not accepting wrong behaviour. If you can't do it on your own, take classes.

You don't say what breed of dog you have, but if it is a Siberian Huskey you are going to need LOTS of patience. I have 2 huskies, a breed that is known for its stubbornness. I hate to tell you this, but training them was only half the battle - getting them to actually obey a command when given (due to their stubborn nature) is a completely different story! Maybe you would be better off taking your dog to some obedience classes and let the professionals deal with it. Good luck to you.

Instead of treats and a belly rub. Get a choke chain and go thru some basic obedience.

This may sound harsh but it really is not. My obedience trainer recommended the electronic shock collar as a "training AIDE". The device comes with a training manual and different levels of voltage ( kind of like the electronic fencing that is so popular). I only used the shock once on my dog and from that point on the warning is all he needs. It is just like the fencing system but you have a remote to control the dog.
