As gayness isn't a "decision", the question is moot.

Conventional wisdom is that a tattoo can't be removed. Like most conventional wisdom, that's just plain wrong. Still, our branch president is an ex-navy petty officer with some lovely tattoos, and a great spiritual heart. His tattoos do not interfere with his activity and leadership in the Mormon Church. If I had gotten a tattoo before I became an enthusiastic Mormon, I sure wouldn't go to the trouble of having it removed.

In the same way, conventional wisdom is that one's sexual orientation is fixed at birth. That simplistic viewpoint is just not supported by the data, including many studies touted by the gay and lesbian community. See the sources listed below.

I've lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay area for the better part of the last two decades, until I moved to the east coast a few months ago. Obviously, I've got lots of experience in working with gays and lesbians. If you're truly questioning your commitment to the gay lifestyle, get in touch with your bishop. He's a pretty understanding guy, and would love to talk to you.

We understand that people make mistakes; everyone does. I have had dear friends in the Church with tattoos from before their conversion, during war times, certain jobs, but that doesn't mean they're bad people. So you made a mistake - big deal. That's what repentance is for. If you're willing to repent and realize that having the tattoo isn't what you want, then it's really no big deal to have it.

A gal I teach Sunday school with has a tattoo. So what? We all make mistakes in our lives. Thank goodness we can repent. I hope you will come back. Call your local bishop or missionaries or visit a ward or branch near you.

You don't choose to be gay or straight. The tattoo being gone will not make you straight. You are what God made you and it's okay. Being yourself will be the best you can be. Many people would rather be gay than mormon.

Tattoos can be removed.

Can your orientation be changed?

Most importantly, why return to the Mormon church?

A tattoo can be easily removed. But can you hide who you are from people that will look down on you. Be true to the real you & find a church that will welcome you just the way you are.

Hon, you didn't decide to be gay. It just kinda happened, eh?

I think you should be more worried about being a good person. Show the world how to love, don't hide from it.

You can repent for a mark like a tatoo and still have it, because there is no way to cheaply and easily remove it. They can't bar you from practicing stuff because of a mistake who's mark you have no power to remove.
