Although I do not quite agree with how this question was worded as in "white true american" I do agree with the statement. Both my brother and I are "white americans" (but I do know non-white americans who are more truly american then I am) but both he and I have had insane troubles getting scholarships and are both honors students.

That means either A) It is impossible to get scholarships for ANYone of ANY race or B) the asker is right... Which is it well I will let you decide

Actually the rates of whites getting scholarships are still higher than minorities. Be careful about what scholarships you register for--if its specifically for say Asian Americans planning to be a lawyer, then you probably won't get it. Also I am quite offended by you saying that if you're not white then you're not a "true american". There are plenty of whites that are foreigners as there are minorities that were born here and are Americans.

I think that historically, college graduates had been predominantly Caucasian, in the US, and so it is thought (somewhat logically) that the attainment of a college education/degree usually indicates an improved economic advantage for the individual and a more productive contribution from the individual to society as a whole.

To even the playing field somewhat, scholarships and federal aid were for a time more concentrated on those ethnic, racial and other denominations who were under-represented in the pool of graduating seniors from college. This effort was intended to introduce more funding options for those non-white students who had the inclination and ability to succeed in college. By addressing these groups financially, the overall number of college graduates increased, because access to tuition and preparatory funding was enhanced (this is borne out by the sheer number of students graduating from college each year).

As time goes on, the U.S. should see a more representative mix of college graduates (i.e., for whatever % of the population is white, that % of college graduates would also be white, and same would go for blacks, latinos, asians, native americans, women, etc.).

This would explain why the scholarship availability and eligibility is geared more towards non-white students.

So if you're not white you can't be a true American? No wonder you're making a fuss about ethnics getting scholarships!!
It must really get your goat when an untrue American achieves success, while you sit around crying in your soup!!
I don't give out scholarships, but if I did i wouldn't give you one because of your crybaby attitude. I didn't hear you complain about the advantages of being white in America.

What? A white true american? If you were born in the US whether black, white, or other you are still an american. Scholarships are out there for all that apply.

Because it makes the campus look good if they have a nice mix of minorities. There is no true american except for Native Americans, and they're not white.

because people think that because our ancestors had alot of unearned privledges that we shouldnt be able to have many...just to compensate. It blows, because I know that IM a decent person, and all this politically correct bullshit leaves us at an unfair advantage. But i dont really give two shits either way because while im white, there are alot of white girls with rich daddies, and poor ignorant white people out there to make my race look bad. I get stuck in the middle.

well its all about diversity which means that you need certain percentages of minorities. so its not that its harder to get a scholarship you just dont have speacialized one. but there are millions in government and private grants and scholarships that go unclaimed every year there is a big book in the library that will tell you about all of them. try there and see what you can qualify for.
