For a very young child who is just learning to write, switching "p" and "q" or "b" and "d" is very normal.....it's NOT dyslexia. It's just part of them figuring out how to draw the letters that have a lot of similarities. Once they have learned their other letters well and are writing well, then it might be dyslexia.

It depends on the age. Reversals of letters are quite common for b d p g q and some others up until the end of second grade. If your child is between the grades K-2 nothing to worry about it is normal.
B and D: have your child make an okay sign with their hand (an o with the first finger and thumb and stand the rest of the fingers up... that's the b the other hand will make a d

P and Q Turn the hand upside down while makng the okay sign and you will have the p and q

don't do worksheets have your child write one of the letters in shaving cream, jello, koolaid, sand, playdough, etc. saying the letter name very time. After you feel that the letter is perfected........try another one. Have them patch letters with items that begin with that sound.

It really would depend on the child's age - you didn't specify.

If the child is young, like first grade or under, it may just be that they are getting their letters confused, and seems to be a relatively common thing. If that's the case, it just takes practice.

If it's an older child who already has the alphabet down pat, it could be a number of things. Several people have mentioned dyslexia. However, it may be dysgraphia, which is related to dyslexia, but is a bit more rare. You may want to take the child to a clinical diagnostic place - the school should be able to recommend one.

Normally people will diagnose what your child is doing with dyslexia and i can only say that they are flat wrong. While dyslexia is similar, it is also very different. It is nothing more than simple confusion.

The best thing for you to do is to make sure your child knows the way a "p" and a "q" look like.

He's 7 give him a break, he's still trying to master holding the pencil correctly. If you are concerned, keep an eye on his other letters. Are P and Q the only problems? Or is he flipping lots of others too. If you notice lots of problems then talk to his teacher and get his/her interpretation. If you are still concerned after that get in touch with the special ed dept. of your school district and ask to have him evaluated for a learning disability.

yuletide potential comparable as Christmas. The X represents the Greek letter chi, in Khristos "Christ." It has certainly no longer something to do with xing out Christ. you could study it on line. once you study or write X-mas you're making use of the unique Greek term for Christ.

It depends on the age of the kid. If they are still pretty young (up to 2nd grade)...it's normal and just getting used to "which side the balloon goes on the stick". If it's past that point, your child's teacher will be able to help you in appropriate steps to take. Good Luck.

Dyslexia. Contact a Speech Patologist. I graduated from UCF with a degree in Communicative Disorders (Speech and Hearing), but, since I stay at home with my two kids, I don't practice. It's resolvable. Don't worry, or lose hope.
