There are some police officers who are crooked, yes, that is true, but to label them ALL as "above the law" is not right. Think about this the next time you see one going through a red light without his lights:Yes, he MAY BE abusing his authority, but then again, what if he's just running silent to a domestic dispute that has turned violent? Is it for you or me to judge him? Would YOU rather he arrive a few minutes late when you have an emergency and are in need of the police, because he obeyed a few traffic laws, which may be the difference between life and death for someone you love? Is it really worth the time and effort to call those who protect you onto the mat? And yes, I hate to say it, but if you were to report it, that officer may be slow to respond when you are in need of help (OOppss, gotta follow the traffic rules) not truly out of spite, but because of the fact that cops are under so much pressure, such close scrutiny on every little thing they do, that you reporting him for a minor traffic violation is probably going to piss him off. This man saves lives ALL THE TIME. HE ENFORCES the rules, and for you to tattle on him for something so petty; it's like a slap in the face.

my hubby is a police officer, no they r not above the law! A lot of times they get calls of burglary, or a domestic, they will run stop sighns for certain situations, even when they r not runnin lights and sirens! They do pay attention to see if others r there! So dont bother reporting it cause he's just trying to get somewhere quietly yet quickly!
I use to complain about that too..lol..til my hubby told me!
hope that helps
have a good night!

I tried to report cops driving dangerously and all I got was "come in and fill out a report. we'll investigate it". Are they stoned? Going in is telling who you are and they'll know where you live and what you drive.
The best thing to do is call it in and give the license plate number and what kind of car did it and let them run the tag.
In short, nothing will be done. Cops are way above the law they are suppossed to enforce. The tragedy is they are the worst drivers.

They are not permitted to break the law, however it is a waste of your time. I hate to say that, but no one is going to do anything. I am sure all the police ( especially in small town) are going to do is give a warning to their co-worker. If that, it is sad that they abuse thier power. I say you are a good person for wanting to do something and I will back you up if you wanna take a stand for what is right. have a good day.

Unfortunately they are...it's frustrating but true. I have seen them run red lights without thier light on, forget about a stop sign. Depending on where you live it can be better or worse. My mom was almost killed by cops who blew thru a stopsign and smashed her doing 50 in a 25. She almost died while one of the two policemen had a broken arm (not wearing seatbelt). The police dept sued my mother and both officers sued her personally as well. The case was thrown out of court for lack of evidence on both sides, but the DA was unwilling to sue the cops the other way around...its a crazy world.

As per vehicle and traffic law , emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, police, etc) are allowed to violate the traffic code in the furtherance of their duties , and in the case of police are not always required to utilize lights/sirens.

Maybe report it as a concern that the police do not obey traffic laws.

Officers are under pressure from the media, public, and their supervisors to reduce their response times to calls, including non-emergency calls, to a minimum and Officers DO, in fact, violate traffic laws without their emergency equipment activated. In my opinion, this is wrong but, it is also understandable.

report only if you have time to waste. Nothing will be done about it as long as they aren't hurting people let them run the lights I'm sure there are perks that come with having your job too.

Do your civic duty. If you don't have it on video and don't have several eye witnesses with impeccable credentials, don't expect anything to come of it. Lots of people hate the police and make false accusations quite often.
