Because the terrorists Hezbos had controlled southern Lebanon prior to the dustup, instead of the actual Lebanese government. The Hezbos, who aren't Palestinian by the way, are not a legitimate government or army, and initiated the war with Israel. The UN forces are to prevent these terrorists access to Israeli borders and also to prevent them being re-armed through Syria.
The Israelis were only reacting to unprovoked attacks from Hezbos, which included rocket attacks upon Israeli cities, so why would they need to be occupied? They didn't want to be attacked, they just wanted to be left in peace.

Because Israel sent ground troops into Lebanon, Hezbollah never entered Israel, so the goal of UN troops is to keep Israel out of Lebanon and that would best be done on the Lebanese side of the boarder.

You miss the point of having the UN troops there in the first place. The purpose of having UN troops in southern Lebanon is to prevent Hezbollah from attacking Israel, again. The purpose for sending UN troops to the Syrian border with Lebanon, is to prevent Syria from re-arming the Hezbollah! Having said that, can that help you to see who the aggressors are, or are you so mired in your own Israeli hating mindset that you can't allow yourself to believe that Israel's reaction was defensive, in nature.

Because "Israel does not expect the UN to protect its borders, we can handle defending our land." Like stated before, Hezbollah is causing all of the fighting, including Israel's last invasion. On top of that, there aren't enough troops. It was pulling teeth to get France to give more than 200 troops. What a joke of a country France is. 200 troops? Two hundred. I'm glad they realized how lame they are and bumped it up.

Palestinians are not involved. It is Hezbollah who is trying to take over Israel. They are outlaw terrorists. The UN has tried to get them disbanded and moved off the border. They are not a government and are not the agents of any government. They have no right to take up arms against Israel.
Israel is a soverign state, has the right to exist and is not trying to take over another country.
Treating both sides "equal" is just plain goofy. You have been listening to too many whacky liberals in the US.

Israel doesn't want the UN on its territory even though the UN created Israel out of nothing by wiping out the Palestinians.

Because the UN is a lame mockery of a liberal pipe-dream. They have no common sense, and obviously don't understand democracy.
The region has spoken. The majority want Israel gone. So Israel should accept the will of the majority, shut and give the land back.

Because Lebanon's military could not deploy into southern Lebanon. Hezbollah controlled southern Lebanon and thus the problem.

Israel isn't firing rockets into Lebanon whenever they get the chance, Hezbollah is firing rockets into Israel when they are close to the border.
