The greatest thing is that you can take a screenshot right with Windows, without having any third-party program to do it for you. But Irfanview is a good image-viewing program which has all imaginable functions in it, including taking a screenshot.
1. Set up your desktop as you would want it to be recorded in the image (e.g. if you want a Winamp to be shown, place it in the appropriate position).
2. Press CTRL + F8 (maybe labelled PrtSc or Print Screen). Some keyboards would require the Fn key too to be pressed with the other two, in that case thekey combination becomes CTRL + Fn + F8.
3. Your screen is now copied to the Windows Clipboard. Now go to Paint, and click on Edit>>Paste. Now, your screen appears as an editable image on the Paint Window.
4. Save the image to the desired location be selecting File>>Save As. Specify the desired format (BMP, JPEG, GIF etc.) in Save as type.

Hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard and then you can paste the screenshot into an image program, like Microsoft Paint or any other image program.

Hit "Print Screen" key on your keyboard to take a snapshot of your current screen. Then open up any image editing program, even MS Paint, and paste your saved screen shot. Save that image as a JPG if you want and you're all set!

I use screen shoot it. But at http://www.downloads.com you can search for screen capture software and then filter it by which ones are free.
When I did that, one of the most popular ones is screen print and capture.
You can download it free here:
