Have you or have you not seen the family in 3 weeks? Either way, if there is a really bad smell and it seems to be bothering you, then you should call the police. If there was a lot of noise coming from next door and it bothered you, wouldn't you call the police? Call the police! If there is nothing "bad" going on, so what? If there is something "bad" going on, you could be doing the neighbors a BIG favor.

Yes you really should call the police to check it out! In my daughter's townhouse complex, everyone noticed a very strange smell coming from one of the townhouses for the past few days. The landlord went in & found the Vietnam Vet had committed suicide, maybe on or around Memorial Day. The police & detectives were called to investigate.

Yes you should. They will do what is called a "well check".
Believe it or not, those sort of calls aren't uncommon. Family across the state that can't get up with an elderly family member.
Do make the call

YES. Call the police. That's their job. To serve and protect. If you were wrong then you were wrong and can sleep better at night.
