Although some very large breed dogs take longer, most dogs are full-grown by 6 months of age. After that they start packing on fat or muscle mass depending on their lifestyle.

I have found from countless years of personal experience that dogs of all sizes and shapes keep on growing and reach their "mature" or adult size and stage when they hit two (2) years of age. Until they turn two years old, it is a good idea and I highly recommended that you feed your pup a high quality puppy food that's formulated for the adult size of your dog.

As a rule of thumb:

Small Breed Purina Puppy Chow is excellent and specially formulated for growing needs of puppies that will be between 1-20 lbs. when they're a full-grown adult.

Regular Purina Puppy Chow is excellent and specially formulated for the growing needs of puppies that will be between 20-45 lbs. when they're a full-grown adult.

And Large Breed Purina Puppy Chow is excellent and specially-formulated for the growing needs of puppies that will be larger than 45 lbs. when they're a full-grown adult.

After any puppy turns two years old, you can switch them over to the adult Purina Dog Chow food that's right for their size, as well. All of my dogs have lived an average 5-8 years older than their intended lifespans for their breeds and size, so I swear by Purina for meeting and exceeding all of the nutritional and growing supportive needs of proteins, good fats, vitamins and minerals for your pets, too!

Good luck & enjoy your new addition!!
