I have had a cat for nine years and she's been the only pet for about 7 years. I got a chihuahua puppy and at first the cat just ignored it or didn't seem to mind it. Now my cat is jumping out at the chihuahua and biting her or swatting at her. She doesn't have front claws. Has anyone experienced this? Will it get better? Could my cat hurt her or is she just trying to show her who's in charge?

Oh...I forgot that whenever the cat does this the puppy screetches at the top of its lungs and then when the cat leaves it shakes like it's really scared.

Yes. A Cat can hurt your dog. I have 3 cats and know this, but you have to understand that cats are extremely territorial and might be reacting to this new creature as an intruder. It does get better though. Eventually the cat will get use to the new comer by just ignore the dog or playing with it. You can avert some aggressive behavior by spraying the cat with water when it tries to attack the puppy. The dog will eventually learn to protect itself and finally fight back. i'm sure they will get use to eachother and you'll have fun watching them wrestle. Good Luck!

Yes... even a kitten could hurt a Chhuahua no matter what the age is.

I also have this problem... my 1.5 year old cat scrathes my dog but its huge and strong. Either the cat wants its space, does not get along with other mates, maybe the dog has offended it somehow such as private parts etc., the cat thinks the dog is anohe cat, or its just the gender of these 2 animals. If they are both male there's usally trouble... the cat thinks the puppy is a cat ecause of its size thats probably why its hurting it. Or maybe it wants to play dirty lol.

Your cat is establishing the pecking order, that's all. She's older so she's the boss (that's the way it is with animals) and she's reminding the puppy of that fact.

Once your puppy realizes her social standing, things will calm down and they'll get along fine. Since your cat has been declawed, she isn't able to scratch out you puppy's eyes or cause any harm. Trust me, when things get too rough, the cat will jump up on something to get out of the way.

It does sounds like you cat is playing with the puppy, especially since you didn't say she hisses or growls at it. If she doesn't bite the puppy hard, then she is definitely playing so sit back and enjoy your own little circus.

My dog and cats play together alot and it includes jumping out at each other, swatting with paws and so on. It's as much fun for us to watch them play as it is for them!

Yes your cat could seriously hurt or kill your puppy chihuahua. I know this because I have a puppy chihuahua myself and chihuahuas are very sensitive and delicate creatures. I think your cat is jealous of the puppy becuase you tend to pay more attention to your new puppy than to your old cat. I believe you should get a pet professional to solve out your situation. It could get deadly for your puppy if you don't do anything about it right away.

I don't understand why you adopted a chihuahua. Chihuahua need special care and need quietness in the house in order to grow strong and healthy. They shouldn't grow in a family of babies and young kids and especially cats. Chihuahuas are much smaller and weaker than cats so it's fatal to leave a chihuahua and a cat together alone in the house. I suggest you leave your chihuahua and your cat in separate rooms while you are out of the house.

Cats are very independent and can stand up for themselves. They can seriously hurt anything, almost if they try. But the cat will get over the new puppy. Try to treat them as alike as you possibly can, because the cat has feelings too, and she might be jealous.

Wish you and your pets well!

I seen a cat do damage to a mid size mutt dog. The claws are fast and sharp. OK....This cat jumped on top of the dog, sank its claws into his back. Rode him a few seconds.....later he scratch the crap out of the dogs face.

OK... the dog was a few bricks shy of a load. However, he never messed with that cat again. So he does learn...slowly.....but does figure it out.

Get a cat pole so cat can get away & provide the canine chew toys. This will additionally tell the domestic dog that the cat is extra significant than a chew toy. do no longer enable travellers inspire the domestic dog even tho it particularly is humorous each and every so often. suitable to enable the animals artwork it out themselves as they do whilst your no longer around. Cats will make out that they are fussed basically like they do whilst they are not getting their well-liked meal. Animals have not got human emotions so they are difficult to study yet one issues for particular they'll compete on your interest. they might on no account play tho they'll learn how to settle for one yet another if left to it. in case you are going to be able to desire to growl do it to the two. as long using fact the cat has someplace to conceal each and every thing would be advantageous.
