He already said that if you find something you like to let him know...So let him know!! You will be wearing it for the rest of your life, so it should be something that you love! I'm sure after 5 years, he has a pretty good idea of what you like, but this will take the pressure off of him in picking it out and gives him more time to think of a fabulous way to propose!

I'm in your shoes - the 5 years part too (and YES it's been a long time, but it's been a wonderful time, and we know we're in love and will get married - eventually - when we get around to it) - and I was worried about the whole ring thing too. I really, really don't want something gaudy.
A while ago, I sent him an email with a link to a ring that I liked, and a little note saying "I'd probably like something like this, sometime soon," - it was a gentle and subtle nudge in the right direction.
I'm still waiting, but I think I'll get what I was looking for pretty soon. :)

We were shopping in the mall one day and looking in all the stores it was a rainy day with nothing to do. We went into a bunch of jewelry store just for the heck of it. I saw this beautiful ring and told him how pretty it was. Later while i was in a store shopping he told me he had to use the bathroom and ran back and bought the ring. That night at home he shocked the hell out of me and pulled the ring out. Any way that was two years ago and in three more weeks we will be married. If he told you to tell him if you like one then tell him. He may not no what to really buy for you.

If you want it to be a surprise pick out a couple of rings that you like and let him chose from there.
I found a setting that I fell in love with and showed it to my fiance. He picked out the diamond for it.
(waited 4 years and getting married in 50 days:)

I think KITTYROGERS has some issues!!
Now, it's your finger on your hand and, he did ask you to tell him if you found one, right!?! But I must agree that you really should both go together and search it out! It is something important that will effect both your lives for, well, ever, hopefully. So pick what you want, see what he has chosen, then both of you decide which one! How delicious! Good luck, and have fun!

Its the 21st century and we make more choices then ever before. He said for you to let him know and you should. Would you rather have him get a ring you hate and risk hurting his feelings b/c you hate it and he has to return it or you tell him from the beginning what you like. He is still doing his part and why not start to communicate and compromise early on? Good luck!

I created my ring online and gave a copy to my then boyfriend. When he went ring shopping, he found a rind that was completely different and I've had it for 3 years now and wouldn't change it for the wourld. I have since then tried on rings similar to the one I designed, but none of them look as good as the one he bought.

tell him, because you've already found one you LOVE and you probably wont like one he pics out as good, you dont want to be disappointed.
besides, he would probably love for you to pick it out, no pressure!
thats exactly my situation, except we've been together 7 1/2 years! i got a ring that i love and we're getting married in 8 weeks!

My boyfriend bought me an engagement ring about 12 years ago. It was the most hideous article of jewlery I had ever seen. He has good taste in almost every other aspect but not that one. If you found one you liked, tell him about it. He may not buy the exact one but if he knows what you like, that should solve any issues there.
