I've had my hair growing for a good minute (I've had lengthy twisties and have a trimmed 'fro right now) and I want to experiment with my hair (specifically my color for now), but I don't think I've ever seen a black dude with another hair color outside of Dennis Rodman, Sisqo, etc. And I've toyed with the idea with others and they thought I was crazy and were about rescind my black card. :(

I can say that I'm fond of the reddish-brown hair like Malcolm X had.

My eventual goal is to get a mohawk or something like the girl has in the link below, but one thing at a time.

Thank you to all in advance.

PS - My skin color is stereotypical brown. LOL. I'm just a generic dude.

I think with African Americans, since a dark brown or black is the genetic norm, any other colors, such as red or blond, end up looking fake. Only if want attention or deviate from the cultural norm should you think about dyeing your hair.
Another thing is damage. Since Af-Am hair is so delicate to chemicals and breakage, it's very easy to give yourself what is known as a "chemical haircut". If you have no qualms about possible negative attention or extra work and expense in repairing hair , I'd say go for it!

As a bi-racial woman, I say dye your hair! I was sandy brown, but every summer I do something lighter or redder (auburn). Do it professionally the first time, so that if you don't like it you can blame it on someone else!!! Just do society and yourself a favor... please don't get colored contacts and look completely unnatural and freakish (unless that's a look you like, then, by all means, freak out to your hearts content). The red may be attractive. If you get it done professionally, see if they can put highlights of bits of blond in it. That sounds attractive and pleasant to look at (complimentary colors). Good luck.

Well personally I think that some guy's do look good high lights or brown hair ,but if you don't want to drag to much attention just don't dye your hair blond. First go with a lighter color to see how you look in a bit lighter color.

My son requested me if he ought to dye his hair eco-friendly so I requested him if it is because we dont percentage adequate high quality time togather, like i heard, so i advised him he ought to spend more effective time operating with me, didnt like that concept, then requested him in college what percentage men have eco-friendly hair he stated 3. so I advised him If someone became considered doing something incorrect and they stated the golf eco-friendly haired guy, yould be busted fairly quickly properly, unlike in case your hair became blond or organic. He didnt die his hair,

I've seen several black men with dyed hair, either really blond, or red. I like it.

You only live once, so go for it. It's just hair, and it grows out.
