The best time to consider buying a new vehicle is well known by most the months of Sept-December during these months all car manufacturers are slashing prices due to the new year vehicles that they are receiving so if you want a car from 2006 your bound to get a deal because they are taking off the depreciation of the vehicle for the year its been sitting on the lot and they want that
space for the new shipments. So look for the sales in the fall thats your best bet and don't be shy to haggle the price because they want to get rid of it as much as you want it. Good luck and personally I would recommend an import of any kind they may be more expensive to repair but the reliability and the resale value far exceed domestics.

After spending years in the auto sales industry.. I can tell you that there really is no 'best month' to buy a car.
The time that you will get the best price that the dealership is ready to offer is...when you are ready to buy a car.
Meaning the time you are prepared to sign a contract and actually BUY a car. That is when you will get their best price.
Now, if you are talking about buying last years model to save a few bucks. Then go in AFTER the new model year has been released. Then we are motivated to move LAST years model.
The best thing is to tell them at what number they can get your business. Tell them ... if you hit X$$$ we have a deal. If they can..they will. And you bought a car at a price you were comfortable with.
Believe it or not...car sales guys are not there to screw you.
They are simply trying to make a living.
I find it funny that NOBODY wants to pay the asking price for a car. BUT, do you negotiate the price you pay at the grocery store, the gas station or restaurant????
I find it weird that when it comes to cars, EVERYONE thinks they deserve a discount. But, wouldn't expect the same at other places that they spend money.

i work for an auto mfg. between Oct and Feb we put special attention to quality on vehicles shipped out due to IQS initial quality surveys that comsumers are given. if other mfgs do the same i would say the best time to buy for quality is in the first 4 months of the year. if price is your main concern you need to consider time of year, month and even day. September (or later )on a mid week day not long before the sales office closes is your best chance to negotiate a bargain. you want to be the last customer of the day....

During the summer because that is when people are driving the most. Don't buy a vehicle in taxes season. This is when they jackup the price.

End of December. That way you can get a good deal. Car dealers have to unload as many cars and trucks as possible. The reason is, whatever cars and trucks are on the lot, they have to pay the tax on them. So they would rather move them than to cough out their profit.

The closer to the end of the year the better. I have found that at that time they are trying to get in their quota for the year and need to make as many sales as possible. This way you can negotiate better on price of new car, trade in, etc.....

Good Luck!!

New: August. Dealers need to clear inventory.
Used: Sept/Oct. Prices just fell because the new models are out.

The last day of the year. The dealers want the numbers to look good and they're willing to haggle to make the sale.

As I do not recommend buying a new vehicle, I can give you this advise. When buying a used car go to a dealership, not a used car dealer. Dealerships will not keep cars that aren't sound, they pawn them off to wholesalers who then sell them to used car dealers. I used to sell cars and bought a used car myself and am very happy with it! Good luck with your decision.
