Einstein was a religious follower of the Jewish religion. He thought religion filled in any cracks science couldn't answer.
But he also thought blind fundementalist adherence to the Bible without consideration of scientific discoveries was ridiculous.

I believe that the first part of the quote "Science without religion is Lame" means that without religion, there is no after life and therefore no chance to see if our greatest theorys could ever be proven out. what ever greatness we achieve thru scientific discovery would be a hollow victory in the absence of a God, much like a child learning to snap his fingers and then having no one to show off his new found skills to.
The second part of the quote is much easier to reconcile,as religion without science is a very narrow minded view of the world that we were given, and denies the very intelligence that god created in man.

I don't know if he said it or not, but it sounds backwards to me. I see science without religion as blind, because science opens our eyes to the complexity, beauty, power, and intelligence of our creator. On the otherhand, a religion that cannot be backed up by observation is believable only by those unwilling to use their minds. Just my opinion, or course, and it may change with further experience.

What he meant is that religion and science are very connected despite both communities efforts, for example the big bang and Adam and Eve- do you honestly think that an explosion would occur aligning all of it's particles and debree in perfect orbital patterns and creating the perfect living environment? No way, there was quite a bit of intervention from above in that one, I'm guessing that it occured on the first day, right before He created Adam, Eve, and everything else.

That no matter what you believe, you should be openminded to other options.
