you say they come here to get a better life,, how??? there are plenty of jobs in mexico which is where most come from,, there are superwalmarts, costco, sams club, autozone, dennys, burger king, mcdonalds, carls jr safeway, and not in tourist areas but in regular towns,, i have shopped at many of them and the prices are about the same here in the usa,, sure there are probably no jobs in the very small towns and that is just like here as well,, so why do you keep saying there are no opportunties there when companies like this are growing and growing down there and charge about the same price here for the goods,, if they had no money the companies would not build those stores there

It does not matter at all what Mexico is, what jobs they have available, what conditions they have etc.
What matters is the law is the law and all should abide by it.
If there is problems in Mexico with jobs, pay housing, schooling etc ---- it is up to them to fix it - not run away from it and come to USA to sponge off of us citizen taxpayers. We as americans address and find soultions to our problems, we do not run to another country as a soultion.
If any Mexican wants to come to America to live, fine. Enter the legal accepted way and learn to speak English, get a real S.S. no. of their own and live by the laws of the land.
As far as I can see, the only reason a Mexican has to sneak into this country illegally is because they have a disease, are wanted for a crime, escaped jail or some other reason they could not enter by a legal means.
Anything, repeat Anything I might do that is illegal even as far as an overdue library book, there is some price to pay.
Illegal is illegal and wrong and should not and can not be accepted or forgiven no matter what the lame excuses are.

I live very close to the US-Mexico border. I can see the people if i stand in the freeway. I see poverty! People living in houses built out of card board boxes. Kids with little or no clothes. these people get paid $.50 -$ 1.00 a day. this if they get work. If they do not happen to get a job that day they won't eat. Poverty is in Africa and in Mexico!
Here $5 an hour can feed a family for three days in Mexico. $100 a week can pay their bills for 6 months. People that live in Mexico use the money that is sent to them from their family members working in the us wisely. If they do cross and find a good job the money they send home feeds all of their families for a lot longer than the money that they make in mexico. Men usually cross to come work in feilds in the us and the rest of the family stays in mexico. the money sent will last a lot longer in mexico than if the whole family crossed and came to live in the us.

Okay.....first of all, there are A LOT of small towns in Mexico. People cannot afford to relocate to the big cities where the jobs are. And also, you say the prices are about the same there as here in the US. Hmmmm....did you forget that working in Mexico they make pesos and not dollars??? So, how are they supposed to buy things for the same price as here in the US when they make about 1/3 or less of what people working here in the US make?? Also, you say they don't come here for a better life? Lets reverse that question....if things are SO GOOD like you say in Mexico then why are they flocking here to work in the Orchards for minimum wage?? You think that they would come to a completely different country, and risk dying while crossing the border, to work hard labor jobs, if things in their country were so good??

The same reason the Irish Italians and eastern Europeans came and flooded this countries borders in the past.
Those of Irish, Italian and Eastern European ancestry are especially stupid if they don't realize that their forebears used to be more hated in this country than Mexicans are today.
Many of them came here illegally and the eugenics movement of the early 20th century was directed against them.
As a matter of fact, many of the techniques used by Hitler to exterminate the Jews were learned from Americans trying to exterminate the Irish, Italian, and Eastern European immigrants during the early 20th century.
Of course many of these people here today don't know that because they are pretty ignorant.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE MAIN REASON IMMIGRANTS MIGRATE TO THIS COUNTRY IS FOR A "BETTER LIFE" JUST LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS MIGRATED TO THIS COUNTRY MANY YEARS AGO THIS IS A MIGRANT COUNTRY, I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS FRUSTRATING FOR OTHERS TO COME TO THIS COUNTRY AND WORK THE LANDS AND THE PICK THE CROPS OR COOK YOUR #2 AT MCDONALD'S TO SEND DOLLARS BACK TO THERE HOME...BUT THESE PEOPLE ARE WITHOUT BENEFITS LIKE IN MEXICO, THESE PEOPLE ARE WITHOUT SOCIAL SECURITY, THEY TOO PAY TAXES WHEN THEY BUY GAS, PAY BILLS, OR EVEN BUY A CANDY BAR, THEY DON'T HAVE A SECURED FUTURE HERE EVER! ONE DAY THEY COULD BE DEPORTED,WHEN THEY RETIRE IF THEY GET TO THAT AGE...WITH WHAT BENEFITS,EVEN IF THE BIG COMPANIES WENT ACROSS THE BORDER TO ACCOMMODATE THE "TOURIST" LIKE YOURSELF WEATHER IT BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY OR THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE , KEEP IN MIND THAT T THEY PROBABLY BUILT THOSE THERE WHEN THEY ARE CLOSING BUSINESSES HERE IN THE USA CHEAPER LABOR IN MEXICO, WHILE THEY PAY THEIR STORE CLERKS HERE $7-$10 AN HOUR THEY ARE RECEIVING THAT IN A WEEK THE STORES ARE FOR THE TOURIST TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WHILE TRAVELING HOPE THIS OPENS YOUR MIND A LITTLE

Yes, they do have jobs in the big cities, i.e Mexico City, Monterrey, but the vast majority in Mexico are small villages where there is NO opportunities....
Why do you think Mexico City is one of the worlds most populated cities in the world,? Many Mexicans go there for jobs and opportunity....
Also, if you do manage to find a job, the pay is MUCH lower there, than it is here....The cost of living is high, property values are also very high, in relation to income....Over there they have no home loans, so if you want to buy a home, you must pay cash!....
I hope you have an idea of how hard it is to survive over there...Even the worse here, is much better than the average, over there....

I am not an illegal immigrant supporter, but the answer to your question is of utmost simplicity. Do you know the wages that are paid to the people that work at the places that you mentioned in those locations? Is there Air conditioning in there homes? Cable tv? When a person moves here from another country, they struggle there whole lives right? Of course they do. But when they raise there children here and send them to decent school hopefully and give them a good education they can die knowing that the next generation of there family will be happier. I guess you can say that they are sacrificing there lives to make there children happier and better off. Quite admirable I think. Of course it doesn't always work out that way.

This is a very touchy subject and will divide people for years to come. I do not support illegal immigrants, but I have worked with many of them. FYI: Not all illegal immigrants are from Mexico.
I just want to point out that you said you have shopped there and "the prices are about the same"as here in the USA. Yes, but is the pay the same NO. Also I think you might even be wrong about that too. I have had many arguements with my closest friends because they haven't had the same experiences as I with illegal immigrants. I have worked side by side with them shared meals with them, helped with their children. I mean it is so easy for you to judge while you have freedom to live in this great country. But for them, they should suffer because they were born in a country with no oppurtunities. You just can't even imagine the pain. Comfortable at your computer, spitting out your opinion? Let me see you look a mother in her eyes and tell her that she needs to pack up her family, her babies and leave because she wasn't so lucky to be born with the same rights as you were. I am not saying just let them in and do whatever they want in this country, but I am saying that we have to find a solution to this problem, and the solution is not to ignore the problem so we will be more comfortable. What would you propose as a solution. Have you ever heard " If you are not part of the solution, then YOU are part of the problem"? Think about that, put your self in their shoes SERIOUSLY, and tell the world.........what you would do!!!!!!!

No jobs is no excuse to enter the USA illegally. If you don't live where the job is, go to the job IN YOUR COUNTRY. Move to Mexico City or Monterrey, legally, NOT the USA ILLEGALLY.
Not many people live in remote areas of the Appalachian mountains because there are NO jobs there. Most people live near where the jobs are.
It reminds me of the people in Ethiopia years ago who were dying for lack of water. Well!! They lived in a DESERT.!! They needed to move to where the WATER was.~(o_O)~
Why is that so difficult to understand?
princess_jul - I know what I WOULDN"T do! I wouldn't leave my homeland, my country!! I wouldn't illegally enter another country and live off those hardworking people's taxpaid (by US) federal assistance programs that were set aside FOR legal AMERICANS!! NOT people who illegally entered our country and are not entitled to what WE paid for to provide for US, if and when WE need it!!! I don't pay my taxes for illegal immigrants to mooch off ME!!
