and unhealthy? I saw a show on this last weekend. Do you think obese children will start suing their parents because they don't like their genetics?

Yea all these lawsuits are getting out of hand. People need to take responsiblity for their own actions.

Just because you're too ignorant to know that fatty food or smoking or drinking Clorox is bad for you doesn't mean that you're still not responsible for your actions.

Just like when the police officer & court doesn't care if you didn't know the speed limit when you were speeding...you still have to pay the ticket...Ignorance is not a valid excuse.

That's so stupid. What does McDonalds got to do with the children being fat? The reason these suits occur is because of the success rates of the lawsuits. The reason that there is such a high rate is because of the members of the jury. They think that big corporations like McDonalds can handle suits like this, so they go in favor of the people suing the McDonalds. Unfortunately, more and more people start suing for stupid reasons. As the person before me answered, parents are also responsible for this.

Look- Just because the American culture encourages insecurity and addiction doesn't mean anyone should actually BE responsible.

More important is the FACT that McDonald's food used to be actually nutritious years and years ago. Currently, there is SO much focus on PROFIT, it's amazing it's not deadly the second you eat it, since most of their sh*t isn't even related to anything you could find on lil' ole McDonald's farm.

WHENEVER you put SHAREHOLDERS and HEALTH in the same room, MONEY wins, and people suffer and die. It's really that simple -- look at the state of American health care and see the same idea mirrored...

The harsh reality is that if you want organically grown health food, you either grow it yourself, or pay high prices, but we'll be around to see the laws passed that make obesity lawsuits frivolous, as maybe only 1% of them have any validity at all, much in the same way as the idiot b*tch who sued McD's for hot coffee -- that one stil amazes me.

As far as suing your parents -- who needs to when middle class parents are trying to keep up with upper class parents by awarding cosmetic surgery to their kids for good grades -- whew!

But the USA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

and so on...

You gotta be kidding me? So I guess it's reasonable then to sue a footwear company if the shoes I buy are too small and cause foot pain...I guess it's reasonable then to sue a a car manufuacturer because I crash my car because it's a V6 engine and I drive too fast....I guess it's reasonable then to sue the comb or hairbrush manufacturer because the tooth comb pulls out my hair....Maybe I can sue the toothbrush company because I still get cavities...I know, I'll sue the hairspray manufacturers because I breath in the toxic chemicals that linger in the air when I spray...or how about I sue Pepsi or Coco Cola for their product causing my cavities and stomach ulcers...where does it end?

Oh, I've got a winner...I'll sue my parents because they circumcized me and now I'm disfunctional! This is close to your genetics scenario...maybe I'm born with a disfunctional liver or spleen and it's all their faults because of their genetics. Give me a break!!

As for healthy foods, they are readily avaialble at grocery stores. Just don't buy pre-packaged, value added products, don't buy dead food! Purhcase living food, fruits, vegetables, etc. These are plentiful and in abundance for most north american grocers. Heck, if you were really serious about healthy eating, you may even go so far as to grow a garden of your own!

Completely ridiculous. Some people just want an easy out, like suing someone else in hopes that they get some big payoff and don't have to work (the parents). "Yes, judge, my child is very overweight b/c of McDonald's." Who the crap drove the kid there in the first place?

No it isn't reasonable. Neither is sueing a restaurant for serving you hot coffee and you get burned because YOU spill it all over yourself.

Too many people think they can make an easy buck through the legal system. Then someone that has a legitimate gripe is tied up in the overloaded court system.

Too many lawyers are on television telling people that they can "get you the money you deserve".....everyone thinks they "deserve" money.

I didn't hear about this! How funny...the kids should sue the parents for taking them there. Like kids are old enough to drive themselves...and if the kids are already obese, and the parents are still taking them there instead of teaching them to eat healthy...that is the parent's fault too...
should i sue ben & jerry's because i like their ice cream and buy it too often??

well it is ridiculous! i agree! i love betty crocker chocolate cake with betty crocker chocolate icing but im not going to sit down, eat an entire cake and then sue betty crocker!.....and as i always say you can sue anyone for anything...its just a matter of whether or not you win.....the problem with these cases is that eventually some lame judge is going to award for the plaintiff and set a precedence and then the war will be on!....look at whats happening with the tobacco companies

It's absolutely ridiculous. Maybe if parents would stop taking their kids to McDonald's for every meal we wouldn't have this problem.
And if they aren't smart enough to realize that McDonald's food is fattening, and that eating it all the time will make them gain weight, then they deserve to be fat.

It's absolutely absurd! McDonald's is on the polar opposite side of the spectrum as "delicious"

That's what bugs me most
