How can I know which side of a muffler is the inlet and outlet?

Most exhaust systems have it printed on them. Or look inside them to see how they flow.

Sometimes a muffler will have the letter A on one side and B on the other. A is inlet and B is outlet

There should be a directional arrow. Unless it is a generic muffler, or something like a Cherry Bomb. Then, it doesn't matter.
If in doubt, call the parts store where you purchased the muffler.

Sometimes there will be an arrow for flow direction.
Some use the letter "A" for inlet and some can flow
either direction.

easy which ever opening is closest to the engine is the inlet and the outlet is closest to the back now if they are side by side follow the pipe to the engine to find out which is the inlet and outlet

This may sound kinky but to find the outlet side wrap o9ur lips around the pipe and blow and then try the other side and whih ever blows the easiest ,install that to the front. If it makes no difference than either way will ,work

Most muffers have a arrow or words that will have inlet or exhaust on it

It is normally marked on the muffler. If it isn't, it may not matter. Take it back to where you bought it and ask them

there is directional lines on it if no directional lines are present then it will work either way
