It's happen to me too!!! No it's not fair. Stay there and use every word you can think of on that Manager!!!!! Even if he isn't there. The Manager that I had, asked me to "fill-in" on Christmas morning, being sweet,I said yes. That north end of a south bound mule, didn't show-up! I try ed calling his home and everything. I stayed about 2or3 hours OVER,and then I closed the shop and want home. I left a note on the deck that I had waited and no one come in to re leave me. His Boss come in....Well, the Manager is let go. I was not suppose to be working on any holiday. That was his job.....Good Luck.

I'm sorry sweetie
- it happens.
We don't live in a perfect world, sometimes we have no choice about our obligations and resposibilities. Its what being a grown-up is about.
Someday you'll understand and you'll be giving the same advice to someone, even your own son or daughter sometime in the future.
If your boyfriend is the right one, for you. He'll stay faithful and you will see him again. Just have a little faith, and things will work out fine.
Any job if it matters to you, is getting hard to come by in this economy. Stick it out, and try to get better, get a promotion when you get the opportunity.
Unless you're like all the the losers in the world, just quit.
When you get to do an interview for the next job, do you think they are going to consider your circumstances or are they interested in having a dependable employee who has the motivation & fortitude to be the best no matter how hairy things get. Any new employer would want an individual that is mature and intelligent. Not some immature kid that will quit when things get a little crazy.
Because if you can't do the job, there are hundreds of other people out there that do want your job.
As for your manager, it isn't as much a concern unless he or she is doing it often, you could make a complaint and turn in this person to corporate human resources. Let them sort it out. Your manager could just be abusing their executive privilages, you might even get the managers old job if they get their butt fired.
Good luck and take care-
mahalo!!!

I hate to tell you this, but I will just because it is, in fact, reality...
When your boyfriend leaves for college, it's over. How are you going to compete with the thousands of new women that he is going to meet every day? Nothing against you, but, you are here, and he is there.
It's not all him either. You are going to get pretty tired of not having your "man" around, and your heart will start to wander as well. It's just part of life...
Stop crying at work. A guy a lot hotter than your boyfriend might walk in, and he won't want to see you with makeup all over your face... :)

Well it seems a little unfair but he is the boss and unfortunately that is life. Sometimes we need to grow up and face life. I've worked christmas, fathers day etc. You just need to accept it. It's life. I could understand if he was in the hospital but he is only going 4hrs away to college. You could still see him every weekend if you want to.

Next time I had time stamped plans I wouldnt go to work at all. Unless you can afford to lose your job, you cant/shouldnt leave. See your boyfriend during the VERY upcoming labor day holiday.

Not, it's not fair. And unless you've signed something, they can't hold you over. I'd ask the person WHY their holding you over, and then explain your situation. Also, if you're manager has been doing stuff like this before, and nothings happened to him, I'd report him to the person who is in charge of him.
If this sort of stuff keeps happening, you might want to consider quitting.

You are right! It was not fair. How bad do you need/want your job. I guess that is the question. I would have stayed at work because I need a job. My boyfriend will still be there. But, NO, IT WAS NOT FAIR!

Hang in there girl it's your job what can you do but keep your responsible priorities straight. Good luck, it will be over soon. If your boyfriend loves you enough he will understand. As for that chic that blew you off after she said she would cover, don't do any favors for her.

do you need the job? is it important to you? can you get another job if you quit this one? If none of these things are a problem for you...leave....people can't treat you like that and you need to let them know
