I don't know about your eating habits but I'll give it try. First, talk to your doctor and find out how many calories, fat grams, sodium, etc... that he/she feels is right for you to have each day. Carefully monitor your daily intake of calories, fat, and sodium you eat every day (after awhile it becomes second nature and it won't be such a hassle) cutting way back on sodium will result in quick loss of at least a couple of pounds. Do you eat a lot of fast food? Stop and don't eat any fast food for at least a month. Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, drink lots of water and fruit juices. Watch your sugar intake too. Be reasonable about how you go about this, it takes some time to change your ways and allow yourself a "free" day occasionally where you allow yourself to indulge in a guilty pleasure.

Cut 500 calories from what you eat each day. In a week that will be 3500 calories which equals one pound of weight. Its all about cutting the calories going in and exercising to burn off more.
