Hi,
As faithfulbibleman says Darwin recanted his theory yet this is of no matter, the theory stands of falls on its own merits. And it stands, with no serious challenge to its explanatory power, read about the pepper moth if you doubt this, a observable incidence of evolution in action.

As theories go it ranks alongside such great theories as Gravity, Relativity, etc

It definitely was the first firm theory opposing creationism. And since that debate is still political in America... People who think species haven't evolved, or changed, are either nuts or ignorant. Yeah the world is 6000 years old. Even my own father says Darwin's name with contempt. It's insane. Darwin brilliantly offered the 1st scientific explanation for human development, facing down the religious dogma of his time... and people still spit his name, a couple hundred years later. This world has a long ways to go.

Evolution has had a major impact on science. In particular medicine, biology (taxonomy and zoology).
The other thing to keep in mind is that evolution is no longer a theory, there has been so much evidence built up that scientists have dropped the term theory.
Evolution is now considered a law, much like gravity and thermodynamics.

That is like saying Franklin invented electricity. They discovered these things. And like any other scientist he tested his theories over and over only for them to be proven true time and again. It has been 150 years now, and you fundies have still not been able to disprove any part of these theories. It is almost comical to watch you guys try. Good luck, maybe you will be the first! Darwin PROPOSED the theory based on keen observations. The theory has held up so far. No theory is ever proven, it is a possible explanation of things observed. Yes, the theory explains much. Good luck

Yes. The theory of evolution has had ramifications across all of science and even in such broad fields as sociology and economics.

FYI: If you read Darwin's Bio, He recants the whole theory. and I quote: "I was a young man with unformed ideas. I threw an idea out there and it took off like wildfire." Also Charles Darwin on his deathbed, claimed to be a born again child of God... Good reading. You should check it out.

Unfortunately for Darwin, in the last 150 years no fossil records have been found to prove any of his theories. On the flip side, in the last 2000 years, no fossil records have been found to prove any of the stories in the Bible, Koran, or Talmud either...
Go figure.
