Like when you eat out gratuity can change from place to place I would say for a regular chain hair place you don't often frequent 10% gratuity. But If it is more of a "high-end" full salon that is your regular place of business I would go 10-20% gratuity

Generally, 20% is standard if you are pleased with the services provided. If you are unhappy, you should explain why, but certainly do not tip less than 10%- like wait staff, that is a calculated part of hairdresser's income. The only exception is if the owner her/him self cuts your hair, then no tip is expected, but the total cost will probably be significantly higher.
