I have 4 year old twin boys. They reached all their milestones on time or early but they are small for their age. They had a bone scan done. All the doctor did was take an x-ray of their wrists. At 3 years old the x-ray looked to be that of a 1 and 1/2 year old. They will probably need growth hormone soon. I don't know if this is what you want. Hope it helps.

Delayed developmental milestones are simply common behaviors/movements/abilities that are expected of a child at a certain age, and the child has not performed them. The origin of this delay is a problem originating within the brain itself, and has no particular radiologic features.

If you child is also delayed in somatic or body growth, they could be doing radiographs to determine bone age, as better monitoring of the potential growth (the growth curve charts are rather broad and crude). They might also be looking for subtle abnormalities that would lead them to investigate other syndromes where those features and developmental delay are both found.

If they are doing head x rays, they may be looking for a reason the head circumference is not staying where it should on the graph. Reasons for this might include craniosynostosis, where the sutures fuse too early, not allowing proper brain growth.

Summary: it looks as though you have a good pediatrician who is turning over every possible stone to find the reason for your child's delay.

This would be easier if you had more clarification on what disability you are speaking of. The reality is the term "developmental disability" is a umbrella term in which hundreds of disabilities fall under. Of course with each different Developmental disability comes different characteristics that would would change any milestone including radiological.
