forget the rest go to quickbook.com they have great prices and ou do not have to pay in advance for most hotels. Also check out Hotel QT (www.hotelqt.com) if you are under 25% they offer a discount and they have the only swim up pool bar in NYC. or Check out the Embassy Suites in Battery Park City, on the weekends their rates should be low, you get a free made to order bfast every day, you will have a large suite and if you ask it should be overlooking the Hudson right at the Statue of Liberty, one of the best views in manhattan, for the same view you would pay like $600 at the Gansevoort or the Ritz Carlton and the embassy suites is fairly new.

It is almost impossible to find a reasonable hotel rate anywhere in NYC. I recommend looking for a hotel in New Jersey, which is not far and you could take the subway into Manhattan. It's still expensive, but not as expensive as trying to find one IN Manhattan

look on the upper west side- about $150 is reasonable for NY
Dont let the price ruin your trip and when you eat dinner, stay away from the areas in midtown where the hotels are for better prices. More info, ask/

you're not looking in the right places. go to hotels.com, fill out the information for Manhatten, and then on the toolbar, have the hotels listed by price. theres some cheap ones...they just arent that great.

You should look into vacation rentals, Bed & Breakfast room and hostels. Those will probably be much cheaper than the hotels there.
