If you assume that atheists are right for just a moment, consider this. You do question your beliefs because you cannot possibly really believe in the religious stuff you have been fed. You are not a lost cause, an empty shell, but instead looking for answers.
Because we are assuming atheism is the answer, you should be insecure about your religion, as it isn't truthful, and as an intelligent human, you should be able to know this.
When people are critical of Christians, they are attempting to free those who are trapped in the circular false-logic that is Christianity. We are only trying to help, and we are not attacking you, just the evil beliefs you have been taught as truth.

I am an Atheists and I have great respect for Christians and their beliefs. Most Christians are good honest people. Things like prayer in school don’t bother me in the least. If it makes you feel better to say a few words of prayer before class or before a meal, I am not harmed. I am flattered that Christians who think that they have found the ticket to heaven, want to share that ticket with me. I think that shows that they care about me. I really can’t find any fault with that.
I believe that if you look into it closely you will find that most of Atheist that you hear complaining about, and putting down Christians, aren’t truly Atheists at all. They are in fact Christian hating Jews who are seething with anti-Gentilism.

Nope. Certainly some atheists wil make the arguement, and some christians will too. But belief is an intrinsically personal affair.
That said though, my obligitory daily signature: There is no god. I spit in the face of the prophets for being liars and charlatans all.

Nope, as usual with your questions, you're only stating half the info.
From Dictionary.com
a‧the‧ist /Ëeɪθiɪst
a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Stop leaving out the word "denies".

Oxford---
Atheist:
1. One who denies or disbelieves the existence of a God.
2. One who practically denies the existence of a God by disregard of moral obligation to Him; a godless man.
If you "believe" in a god or gods all the more power to you. Myself the bible was rewritten to suit Constantine and other power happy folks who twist stories to gain power and wealth.

good question from larry by the way ..."Why is someone who is not a Christian automatically an atheist?" ... i know you didnt say this in your question, but i've heard evangelicals make similar statements
... catholics arent really christians ... mormans arent really christians ..... lutherans arent really christians ....but evangelicals ARE christians. <= this is funny

No, Webster's has it wrong...Atheism is a CONVICTION, NOT A BELIEF! I have no desire to "slam" Christians unless they "slam" me.

I would have to say after reading all the answers that it must only apply to christians. They do not believe in christian ideals like do unto others as you would have them do unto you, etc.

Your line, "...does that only apply to Christians" gets directly to the heart of the matter.

You are a little obsessed with it. I think you might just have a hard time understanding it.
I am not critical of Christians, just they agendas they would push on me. I would say live and let live, but you should keep defending your doctrine, as it can not defend itself.
