You'd think so, but it doesn't matter anyway because it is just a story.

It had never rained on the earth up until that time. The idea of water falling out of the sky just didn't sound plausible to the people. If you do the timeline, you find that Noah's own grandfather may have drowned in the flood. The year of his death is the same as the year of the flood. I don't know if he died just before the flood or in the flood. The main thing going for Noah was the fact that he believed God. Most people at that time didn't.

When Noah was building the Ark and he was preaching and trying to tell them what was going to happen they laughed at him. If you will recall at that time they had never had any rain. They didn't even know what rain was. If they would have had faith and believed they would have been saved. God gave them roughly 120 years to believe and accept while the ark was being built but they choose not too.

The people who lived at the time of the global Deluge lacked a serious view of life. They went about their daily routine and failed to weep over the “badness of man that was abundant in the earth,” looking on with indifference as “the earth became filled with violence.” (Genesis 6:5, 11) Jesus referred to that regrettable state, and he foretold a similar attitude among people in our day. He warned: “As they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.”—Matthew 24:38, 39.

He was not drunk while he was building the Ark...that happened after the flood.

The others did not believe him because they thought he was NUTS! How often do you stop and listen to someone on a street corner who is yelling "the end is near"?

Nope. They were wicked, which is why G-d wanted to drown them. Also, Noah was building a HUGE ship that wasn't near a navigable river or ocean. His neighbors probably thought he was a total eccentric.

ROFLMAO
If I for what ever reason started to build a Great Ship say cost about 1 billion, and built in say in death valley.

Who would start building a ship?
What would the media say?
How large a laugh could I get?

When it starts raining, its a little late to start!

It had never rained before on earth and everyone thought he was a lunatic. "Water falling from the sky? Puhleaze..." Up until that point, all the plants were watered by the dew.

Besides, they all thought the Flying Spaghetti Monster would save them.

Well, think about what you would honestly think if some guy in your neighborhood was building a giant boat on a hill top, and preaching that the entire world would be flooded. Given that they were weak in their spiritual sensitivity, it doesn't surprise me that they thought he was a nutter.
