Are you talking a male or a female? Males can breed as long as they are able, although their fertility goes down. I would never breed a female after her 7th birthday, and if it's her first litter not after her 5th.
Before being bred, you dog should also be tested clear of hereditary diseases that are common in bichons and poodles such as: Allergies, Patellar Luxation, Cataracts, Addison's, Cushings, Epilepsy, Hip Dysplasia, Hypothyroidism, Legg-Calve-Perthes, PRA, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Sebaceous Adenitis (SA) and Von Willebrand's disease (vWD).

A ***** shouldnt breed after 7 years old due to her own health. You should never, never breed your dog every heat. If you breed , you need to wait at least 2 heat cycles, and on the third its ok.
Be careful for pyrometria, if the dog is female. Make sure you know when she has bred, and done the :tie" so you know when to expect puppies. Its usually 59-63 days.
Good Luck, and remember its alot of work, for mom, and you!

I think that the risks are worth breeding her, they aren't to bad you could call any vet and they would tell you the exact age for your poodle to stop breeding. I would say you can't after 6-7 years of age. I wouldn't let her breed if she is any older. Good luck with your breeding!!! ;)

1. Why would you breed a mixed dog?
2. I never bred a female after her 7th birthday. Higher risk of complications during delivery and also much more of a chance for pyometria (uterine infection).

My vet and I agree that it is best not to breed a dog after age 6. I wouldn't breed a mix breed at any time.

OK i have a shih tzu and he was a stud until last year after his 3 birthday and the only thing that happened to him was that he was alot quieter then before and the health risk of any damage done to your dog is 50 out of 100........................

Usually they should not be bred after 6 years, but you may check with your vet who knows the dogs history and health.

Usually when the dog no longer comes into "heat", it is time to give them a rest. I would suggest consulting a vet. for the particulars of your breed

I'm 43 and I'm just not up to that sort of thing anymore. I'm not sure the dog likes it much either. We're just going to friends from now.
