Wine is not considered fattening by today's standards. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that no matter what you eat or drink, it will have a caloric value. Wine averages about 100 to 150 calories per glass. So if you are on a 2000 calorie a day diet, you have about 1700 to go for the day. So be sure to get plenty of good and healthy stuff to eat as well as plenty of water (zero calories)
Most importantly, eat and drink all foods in moderation, exercise in moderation and have fun with life! If that means a nice glass or two of wine at the end of the day, then go for it! You deserve it right? :)

A glass of red wine (3.5 ounces...not 8 or 12!) contains 74 calories, 5g. sodium, 115g. potassium, and 1.75g. carbohydrates.
A glass of white wine (3.5 ounces) contains 70 calories, 5g. sodium, 82g. potassium, .82g. carbohydrates.
Theoretically, you wouldn't gain weight only having a couple of glasses an evening, but keep in mind that your body burns alcohol before anything else and if you've had a high caloric day, your weight may fluctuate.
Moderation is key.

As long as you burn more calories than you consume, you will not gain weight. I suggest walking to the bar that you will be consuming libations at, so that you are burning calories before you even begin and, as a bonus, you won't get a DUI for driving home afterwards.
